Wedding-dress shopping is a tough task for any bride, but it can be particularly stressful for plus size brides. I’m sharing some tips to help you navigate the process happily (and easily).
1. Look for Yourself in Bridal Imagery
Let’s face it: Most women — no matter their size — don’t look like models. But it makes wedding-dress shopping a lot easier, if you seek out photos of brides that look like you. That way, you can see exactly how the dress you’re considering looks on a woman your size. Check out plus size brides that look just you here!
2. Find “The One” You Truly Love
Some brides try on two or three dresses before they find the look they love, while other ladies try on dozens (upon dozens) before finding “the one.” As a plus-size bride, you may find yourself vetoing dresses before you even put them on. Dresses — especially wedding dresses — look totally different on the hanger than they do a person. So, don’t assume a design won’t look good on before you give it a test drive. Plus, don’t be afraid to ask the bridal salon consultant if dresses come in any other sizes. You’d be surprised to find out how many designers offer looks in a range of sizes.
3. Don’t Conform
Yes, typically A-line and fit-and-flare dresses are the most flattering silhouettes for curvier girls, but that doesn’t mean you have to wear one of those styles! While wedding-dress shopping, you should experiment and try on different types of cuts. Just remember to have fun — you never know what will end up looking best on your body!
