Real Wedding Wednesday: Connecticut Wedding by Alexis Stein Photography

I received this wedding a few weeks ago and was blown away by several things.

The first being the time that I received it, it was a Sunday after a crazy wedding weekend and anyone who does weddings knows that the Sunday afterwards is always crazy; recovery, reflection and just trying to catch your breathe.  So when I got this email I was so exhausted but this was definitely a pick me up.  All the work that the bride, Laura put into making all the little personal touches are amazing.  The second is their love story.  I am a total sucker for a good love story.

Laura and Steve got married April 2, 2011 in Branford CT

A little bit about Stephen and I.  We met on MySpace back when that was popular.   I was born, raised and living in Queens, NY and he lived in CT.  After we started talking, we met a couple of times as friends.  Nothing happened though because Stephen was very shy when it came to women and also a true gentleman and I am also not one to make the first move. There was also the factor of the distance that sort of kept us from actually starting a serious relationship at the time (it is quite pricey to travel with gas and even by train in NYC) We continued being friends for a year and I would talk to him just about every single night.  It came to the point where every day I just couldn’t wait to come home and tell him about my day.

Eventually I just knew that I wanted him in my life even more because he was like no other man that I have ever met.  He was intelligent, witty and we shared the same sarcastic sense of humor (which not many people get).   We talked about everything from politics to cooking.  It seemed that I could talk to him about most anything.  It inevitably came to the point where we just said we wanted to be with each other so that’s exactly what we did.  The first year of us dating was me traveling to see him on the weekends and him driving me back to Queens on Sunday.  Eventually I would come even earlier during the week and just stay at his place while he was working (luckily, at that time, I worked from home so I had the flexibility to do that).  After our first year of dating, Stephen officially asked me move in with him.  We lived together for a year and then he asked me to marry him in the restaurant where we had our “first date”.  The rest is history.

Since the wedding was in the beginning of Spring and the beginning of April, I was inspired by anything Springy and garden really.  My colors were pink, green and white.  Of course we had to have flowers because of the nature of the theme.  I made the place card holders out of little clay flower pots, floral clay, piggy ribbons glued to the clay pots (Steve and I have a thing for piggies, so that was a personal touch),Spanish moss and green wire.  The place cards were made from a paper cutter that I bought that looked sort of like a flower, but I ended up cutting slits into the sides to make them look more like a flower.  We chose the beginning of Spring because, 1) it’s still considered off season and 2) Spring means new beginnings and we were beginning our new life together.
