How To Collect Memories, Not Things On Honeymoon

It’s so easy to get caught up in stuff… new gadgets, trendy clothes, home decor that you think you need but it’s really just taking up space in the end… But when you’re really honest about it all, how much of it really matters in the long run? The things we truly treasure aren’t things at all – they’re people, moments, and experiences that stick with us. But how can you shift the focus from gathering lots of things to collecting memories instead, especially on honeymoon? Read on to find out.

Choose Experiences Over Possessions

Think back to the best moments of your life – was it unboxing a new phone? Probably not. Was it actually something like a road trip with friends, a last-minute getaway, or a sleepover where you laughed until you cried? Yes, most likely it was.

The fact is that experiences have a fantastic way of making us who we are and essentially shaping our lives in different directions, and material things can never do that, no matter what they are, how coveted they are, or how much they cost. So instead of spurging on another trendy item, it’s far better to book a trip or take a new class or just say yes to an unexpected adventure.

Make Everyday Moments Special

The great thing is that you don’t actually need a grand occasion to make a memory that sticks with you – some of the best ones come from the things that happen in everyday life and the most ordinary settings, like having a spontaneous picnic in the park, cooking a meal with loved ones, or just sitting and watching the sun rise (or set, depending on your preference – and at certain times of the year you can do both without having to get up extra early!).

In the end, these are the kind of experiences that should be taking up space in your memories, and it’s all about being present. So yes, of course take some photos if you want to, but don’t make it all about getting the perfect video for social media – just enjoy it and you’ll remember it much more fondly.

Celebrate Meaningfully

Even though we said you don’t have to have a special occasion to make memories, it’s also true that you should celebrate special milestones, and you can definitely make memories this way as well. However, just because you’re celebrating, it still doesn’t mean it should be about the expensive physical gifts and so on – instead of focusing on the stuff you can get, focus on the things you’re doing because you’ll remember those things long after you’ve forgotten who got you what gift or even what those gifts were.

A perfect example is choosing a breathtaking wedding venue that gives you the setting for some unforgettable moments and memories rather than worrying about the extravagant party favours that no one’s going to remember in a few years or even a few months. When you’ve got the right place and atmosphere coupled with the right people, nothing else matters when you think about it.
