What Wedding Trends Do Venues Say No to Most Often?

Now, it makes total sense here that you want to have a wedding venue that matches your personality, that matches this dream wedding that you and your partner have been envisioning, where that Pinterest moodboard you created can easily come to life. Like this, all makes total and complete sense here. And a lot of people get their moodboard inspiration and wedding ideas from current wedding trends.

And at the same time, though, well, it’s kind of unfair how wedding content works online. Because you can scroll Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram, whatever, and it starts to feel like everyone’s wedding includes, well, just all the fun and trending things that are currently. So yeah, it makes sense that couples assume this stuff is normal, because it’s everywhere. But a good chunk of venues aren’t like that, though.

No, really, in fact, a lot of those dreamy details are either heavily restricted, only allowed with extra requirements, or straight-up not possible at a lot of venues. Not because venues want to ruin anyone’s fun, but because fire codes, insurance, cleanup, staff limits, and neighborhood rules are very real things. So, what are some trends that you probably shouldn’t put your hopes on doing?

Open Flames and Candle Setups Usually Come with Rules

Well, this is honestly pretty common for any event space, and it’s just due to safety and insurance, so please don’t think there’s anything personal here. While yes, real flames are cozy, beautiful, super photogenic, especially taper candles on tables, but they’re dangerous too. Sometimes you can have candles in hurricane glasses, sometimes a venue will even provide those, but some might not allow that (and then you’re stuck with battery-operated candles instead).

And sure, those can honestly kill the look and ambiance you’re going for. But think of it from a business perspective, fire causes damage really fast; one candle can do that.

Confetti and Petals Often Get Banned

Yep, you probably see this everywhere online, and yeah, confetti exits look so fun online (you usually see them in TikToks). But the problem is the cleanup. Think about it; confetti gets everywhere. And of course, glitter becomes permanent. Flower petals can stain, clog drains, or create slipping hazards. Rice and birdseed are often not allowed either. While these used to be classic send-offs, most venues just won’t allow this anymore. Speaking of which..

Sparklers and Fireworks

Well, the sparklers in particular here, you used to see send-off pictures everywhere of people with sparklers. But so many venues don’t allow them. Some allow them only in specific areas, only at specific times, and only with certain safety measures. And fireworks are even more restricted, and smoke effects can be banned too, especially indoors (and this has recently been trending on social media as couples want to go out with a “bang”).

The “Party Until Late” Dream

Well, how late is late? That’s the first question here. So, a lot of couples assume the reception can go late, because online content makes it feel normal. Well, most people understandable think this is normal too. But many venues have strict end times, especially near residential areas. For example, music might have to end by a certain hour, or move indoors, or get quieter. Sometimes it’s not the venue, it’s local ordinances, and in that case, it’s literally out of the venus control.

But this one matters because it affects the whole timeline. If the party can’t go late, the schedule needs to shift so the fun parts happen earlier, or you have to compromise and have an early night. What’s more important to you and your partner?
