How did the two of you meet? Kenyon and I initially met in Nashville while working together in 2010. Then in 2011 we had mutual friends that were dating and they tried to set us on a double date, but their relationship faltered and the double date never happened. You know I didn’t let it bother me, and I prayed for God to send my husband. Little did I know that later in 2012 we would be brought together because of that same friend’s birthday party. It was then that Kenyon asked me out with the question “Can I have some of your time?” and revealed to me that it took him two years to ask that question. With that revelation I knew that he was different and special just the time and the patience that it took for him to ask me out. And from that moment on we’ve pretty much been inseparable, and it just goes to show that what God has for you is for you! Describe your engagement: Kenyon made a romantic dinner and after he proposed. He also arranged for my best friend to fly in, it was perfect! Our engagement was two years long, so that we could afford the wedding we envisioned. Personal or handmade details: I asked my Grandmother to bring a handkerchief, I know it’s a foregone tradition but my Grandfather always had one in emotional times for whoever needed one, usually him though lol. She bought a beautiful handmade lace one, it reminded me of my Grandfather who I know was present in spirit. Also Kenyon is a really talented cook so he made spice blends as our wedding favors. We added bling-y brooches to the bridesmaids dresses it accentuated the waistline and also to give it a little more pizazz and flair. Describe your wedding flowers: A textured round bouquet with pink coral garden roses, sweet Eskimo roses, ivory spray roses with dusty miller. The stems were wrapped in ivory lace with pearl accents. The bridesmaids had coral carnations and the stems were also wrapped in lace with pearl accents.Memories and Stories about the Day:  What most people don’t know about Kenyon is that he can sing! So I playfully call him Kenyon Pender-Vandross his voice is that soulful. Because he’s so shy, never in a million years did I think he’d sing to me on our wedding day, but he did and it was beautiful! It felt like it was just me and him in those moments of our first dance, even though we were surrounded by loved ones. Amazingly my Mother recited 1 Corinthians 13: 3-7 by heart, it was a very powerful and moving. However during the rehearsal she was stumbling over her words. But for the wedding ceremony she was so graceful, poised, and powerfully dynamic in her delivery. I considered it an act of God! With both my Grandfather and Father passed, my brother was to walk me down the aisle. But a senseless act of violence threatened that when my brother was shot twice in August 2015. I don’t think even my brother knows how much it meant to me to see him at my side to walk me down the aisle. And beyond that during the reception we danced and I mean we danced hard and that was truly a joyous, emotional, and triumphant moment for me. We had overcome so much and I felt like our family was truly blessed on that day! Your first dance song: “You’re My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration” by Teddy Pendergrass The thing that we would have done differently is?  If you can afford a wedding planner, even if it’s just for to pass the baton half way through the planning process get one! Wedding planning I found out the hard way is not my strong suit. I was stressed and overwhelmed, and really wanting it to all just be over and that’s just not how you should feel during the wedding process. Also be really, realistic about your budget, I mean with real concrete numbers dollars and cents not estimates, that saves a lot of strife too. Those pinterest wedding budgets takes in account for family members and friends donating time and service as a wedding favor. If you have those true blue friends and family members that you can count on then that might be ok, but otherwise I wouldn’t count on it. So you need to factor in the real costs of those vendor goods and services as well. Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Honestly the cake, it was an unusual combination of flavors an Amaretto cake with Hazelnut filling and we got so many compliments on the cake and we loved it too! Your advice for other plus size brides: Do not get discouraged, when shopping for a wedding dress. To make it easier on yourself shop online first, check to make sure they have what you want in store and in your size before you show up, it’s a time saver and it’ll make your dress shopping that much more enjoyable, the only tears should be tears of joy! Alterations are a must, don’t skip this part that’s what makes the dress truly yours and makes it fit like a glove! It’s so easy to harp on the endless sizes and styles for a “normal”  bride. But it’s just as easy to say look at all the selection, styles, and sizes that we have now that we didn’t have ten years ago as a plus size bride. What a time to be a plus size bride! Three adjectives that describe the day: Amazing, Priceless, Joyous! What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage?  How much things have remained the same between us, nothing has really changed but my last name. Although the last name does take some getting used to :).
