Surprise Birthday Party turned Wedding by MPN Photography

I have always wanted to either do a surprise wedding, yep that’s out or attend a surprise wedding, yep hasn’t happened yet.  BUT, I kinda am invited to a surprise wedding with this real wedding today caught by MPN Photography.  This couple gets mad props for pulling this surprise wedding off by telling guests they were coming to a surprise birthday party for the groom.  GENIUS!

My friend and fellow photographer, Mara Connolly, approached me back in November or so and asked if I’d like to help her shoot a surprise wedding. I wanted to know who would be more surprised? The bride or the groom? The answer was neither. But their friends and family were kept in the dark right up until the moments before the nuptials took place on February 26 at the Oxford Hotel in downtown Denver. Of course, Michele and Bobby knew what was going on, but guests showed up for a surprise birthday bash for Bobby. The fix was in when one surprise turned into another. When the guests arrived, they were treated to the full regalia of a beautiful wedding and dinner reception!

Now I have to tell you that the Oxford Hotel across from Union Station in downtown Denver is a magnificent place for a wedding. The old restored interiors of the hotel make for some fine background, and the city scapes and facade of Union Station are absolutely gorgeous. But Michele was absolutely stunning in her full length wedding dress with black sash. Paired with her beaux, Bobby, it was a perfect day. We literally stopped traffic to shoot the entire wedding party marching up 17th street. Snow had threatened earlier that week, but Saturday was beautiful.
