STYLED SHOOT | 45 and Fabulous | Whatnot Shop Photography

Today we are sharing an amazing styled shoot. It’s a shoot from someone out of our own wedding industry community… I just love that. Check out what Kimberly of Love, Laughter and Elegance: Wedding and Event Planning.

“This is a styled shoot, celebrating the woman that I am at this point in my life. I am a wedding and event planner with over 20 years of experience. I am also a wife to a fantastic husband, and mom to two awesome daughters. I am confident in my own skin, proud of my education, accomplishments, and abilities, and damn sexy in my own right! I wanted to do something special for myself for my birthday, and to be able to share that day with others.”

What was your design inspiration? have seen other milestone birthday celebrations shared online, and I wanted to do something similar for my 45th birthday, which took place in September. I love the fun, bright colors and peppy style of Kate Spade, and wanted to bring that out in this photo session. Those shades of hot pink, blush, black and gold are some of my favorites, and are also my business branding colors, so it went along perfectly! I wanted to showcase the woman I have become at this stage of my life: educated, successful, vibrant, and damn sexy in my own right!

Describe your flowers. My flowers are a mixture of lush silk blooms, in shades of white and pink: dahlias, magnolias, jasmine, peonies and roses.

Describe your cake. The stunning cake was created by Debbie Wright of Cake Wasted. It is frosted in edgy black fondant, giving it a chalkboard effect. The cake was trimmed in narrow gold ribbon, edible gold paint drips, and blush pink silk blooms. It is easily my favorite cake!

Tell us about your attire choices.I wanted to share my sultry, sexy, and fun-loving sides in this celebration shoot. For one of my looks, I chose a my blush pink leather jacket, which was layered over a black lace bodysuit, and blush tulle skirt. Another one of my favorite looks, was my black strapless dress, to which I had my fabulous seamstress, Laurie Wallick of Lorili Design, add a fun hot pink chiffon ruffle. Of course, what birthday celebration would be complete without a gorgeous tiara! I had so much fun choosing that particular piece, and I definitely felt like a queen for a day!

Please describe any DIY, handmade or personal details. Most of the details were pretty classic, simple and elegant. That is my personal style. The cute paper pinwheels that were attached to the message board were created by Melissa Walker. The sign that I am holding in one of the photos describes some of the things that were popular and culturally relevant in 1973, my birth year. It made for a fun keepsake.

Describe the tablescape elements. The table was covered in a floor length white linen, and topped with a large black and white checked cloth. The stylish cake was placed on a clear glass cake plate, and the gorgeously decorated birthday cookies were styled on a vintage gold framed mirror tray. We added napkins in coordinating colors, and a bottle of bubbly and gold-rimmed crystal champagne flutes. We also had a couple of cute stemless wineglasses, and fun straws.
