Here is an amazing DIY who did a fantastic job pulling her whole wedding together with so many DIY accents that I found on Style Me Pretty, so I decided to make an inspiration board about her glorious day. Plus she looks great in her wedding gown.
Here is a little background on her and the groom.
When Seth and I got engaged he was about to deploy with the Air Force for 6 months and I was finishing up my BFA so I started reading blogs and getting ideas but, until school was finished, I didn’t start wedding planning. I planned for 6 months, 5 of which Seth was deployed. Wedding planning and DIY projects kept me afloat during that time. I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to create so much of the wedding myself. At times I was overwhelmed by my projects but there is no telling how much money I saved and the feeling of doing it myself is priceless.
The venue we choose was my Grandmothers backyard at her home in Trenton, TX. I grew up looking at the wedding photos in my family so as I started getting ready for my own, I pulled them out again. One of the most important parts was to incorporate the past, not just by using old items, but by replicating certain parts of past weddings as well, especially those that happened at the same home.
The stand our cake is on, the punch bowl, and punch cups are the exact same ones used by my parents and my aunt Rena’ at the same home. All the serveware was pulled from my grandma’s and great aunt’s collection. The antique tablecloths were borrowed from my great aunt as well. The windows hanging up were given to us by a family friend who took care of me when I was a baby. Our hairstylist was the first person to cut my hair. Another aunt made the bow-ties, flower girls sashes, and ring pillow. I (with the help of friends) handmade the silk flowers that my mom used to make the bridesmaids bouquets, flower girl ponders, and all corsages and boutonnieres. My mom also made my bouquet and arranged all the flowers on the tables.
We probably bought over a hundred yards of fabric for all the projects. I made the curtain divider from sheets I found on clearance and attached the birds so we could hide the reception area until after the ceremony. All napkins were handmade and inside we placed a fork from my grandmothers collection. The birds hanging from the trees were cut from a pattern, sewn, stuffed and finished with ribbon and trim. My invitations were also all handmade, sewn, and designed by me; my mom did the calligraphy. The food cooked and served by family and friends. Our dessert table was pot luck and my maid of honor put together the candy table.
One of the most important things that I didn’t realize until halfway through the planning was that by having people help with the wedding and diy projects, how much more special each and everything about the wedding had become and how worth it every detail was.
