Real Wedding Wednesday: Beautiful Michigan Wedding by Amy Carroll

I absolutely love the way purple looks and especially for weddings.  I was in awe while looking at these amazing pictures where the colors were purple, plum and platinum.  LOVE!!! The bride and groom look so happy and in love.  I love their theme, modern elegance. This has become such a popular theme but not many have been able to pull it off as glamorously as Rachel and Andy.

Ceremony and Reception both took place on Sunday, September 6, 2009

We had an interfaith (Christian and Jewish) wedding ceremony, as I (Rachel) am Christian and the groom (Andy) is Jewish.  We incorporated Jewish traditions such as a Chuppah and the breaking of the glass into the ceremony, along with common Christian traditions like a sand ceremony and traditional vows.  We also signed a Ketubah, which was written in both English and Hebrew.

We held the reception at the Grand Rapids Hilton, as all of the groom’s family had to travel from his home state of Maine, and we thought our guests would appreciate the ease of having the reception at the same place they were staying.  We made up welcome baskets for each room, with pamphlets of the weekend’s wedding-related events, a Grand Rapids visitors guide, bottles of water, aspirin, snacks, and such.  To this day, we still get comments from friends and family members about how they could tell we went above and beyond to make everything easy and accommodating for them and how much fun they had because of it.  This is EXACTLY what we wanted, and we’re thrilled that our guests noticed the effort that went into making them feel appreciated.

The theme for our wedding was modern elegance and our colors were plum, platinum and dark lavender.  We used purple uplighting at the reception to completely transform the room (I highly recommend uplighting!), along with platinum linens on the guest tables, black chair covers with matching platinum sashes, and plum linens on the cocktail tables.  This all  helped give the ballroom the ultra modern and rich feel that we wanted.

Our first dance was to the beautiful “When I say I do” by Matthew West (which he actually wrote for his wife on the morning of their wedding day)!
