REAL WEDDING | Rustic and Vintage New York Wedding | Jay Zhang Photography

Today we have a fabulous mix of vintage and rustic wedding. I just love how Grace and Tim bring both of these two very popular trends together and allow them to really complement each other.  And can we talk about the different purple colors, love it! Check out more below. Congrats you two!

Tell us about your wedding: We renovated my dad’s barn to get married in. My Dad suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm almost 7 years ago. While he survived, he lost almost all of his independence and his barn has really sat abandoned since then. There were a lot of memories there, and working on it was like opening an old wound, but the end result was more than we could’ve ever dreamed! We DIY’d a lot of our wedding – we had a florist for my bouquet and for the corsages, but our friends grew the rest of our flowers in their backyard.
Wedding Colors: Purple, ivory, grey with pops of copper
How did the two of you meet? We met on Facebook – Tim friended me – we had a mutual friend in common. We then met for dinner and were inseparable since then
Describe your engagement: We dated for 4 years before getting engaged. Tim proposed on a trip to Philadelphia with friends.
Personal or handmade details: I guess the most personal was the fact that we renovated my dad’s barn. Parts of the barn date back to the early 1800’s. Other personal details were my magic hanky that I had around my bouquet – my grandma makes them for each new baby, and I wore it home from the hospital and my mom kept it for me for my wedding.
Describe your flowers: I wanted a mix of purple flowers (dahlias and other purple flowers with pops of orange with orange spray roses) – I wanted greenery too with eucalyptus and bells of Ireland
Memories and Stories about the Day: It was so great to share the day with our closest family and friends (141 guests). It was also great to chat about how we had renovated the barn with guests. The backdrop to our ceremony was old doors – the doors had been salvaged from the old farmhouse that used to be on the property. We cleaned them up and stood them upright to stand in front of for our ceremony. We spent from about March of 2017 up until the wedding cleaning up and making sure everything was perfect for the day. We collected old odds and ends at flea markets and antique shows throughout the summer, while also rummaging through whatever my parents had. we tried to use our resources the best that we could to save money. And now we have a venue out of it. We are working on making the venue a real, running wedding venue.
Your first dance song: “Misty” by Ella Fitzgerald. We lived in NYC for 2 years, and once while waiting for a train, we heard this old jazz/blues musician singing on the platform. He was singing a beautiful rendition of that song with such ease we missed our train to hear him finish the song. From that point on, it sort of became “our song” and we knew we wanted to incorporate it into our wedding.
The thing that we would have done differently is? Not have stresses over the little things. No one cares what color the napkins are.
Your advice for other plus size brides: Learn to love yourself as you are. Your fiance loves you the way that you are, you shouldn’t put so much pressure on yourself to change. You are and will be absolutely stunning the day of your wedding. Love the body you have. Embrace every inch of yourself; the goddess that you are <3
Three adjectives that describe the day: Stunning, rustic, vintage
What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? How easy it is. There are definitely bumps in the road, but nothing compared to the stress of planning a wedding
