REAL WEDDING | Outdoors Ohio Wedding | Carrie Over Photography

Autumn and Jeremy’s late summer Ohio wedding was held at Crockett’s Run, a rustic cabin rental site. The lovely couple celebrated their Protestant and Jewish backgrounds with a beautiful, personal ceremony full of symbolism. The two were married outdoors surrounded by a forest. Autumn had a wedding full of personal, gorgeous details too. There was a homemade quilt, silk flowers, homemade bookmarks and more. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness Autumn and Jeremy!

Tell us about your wedding: My husband and I wanted a ceremony that incorporated our two backgrounds (protestant and Jewish) in a way that was full of symbolism and beauty. We had a chuppah (his tradition) with a hand-made quilt as the cover (her tradition). We both feel a powerful connection to the natural world and were married outside, next to a stream, surrounded by the forest. We circled one another to show the creation of a new home (his tradition) and wrote our own vows (her tradition). We ended the ceremony with the groom breaking a glass (his tradition) and the two of us being introduced with our hyphenated last name (OUR tradition!).

Wedding Colors: Blue, white

How did the two of you meet? Online on OkCupid! I messaged him after several bottles of wine; he wrote back. We went for coffee a week later, which stretched into an art gallery walk, lunch, and a movie.

Describe your engagement: For our one year anniversary we went to Casanel Vineyard. We enjoyed glasses of wine and snacks after our tasting, then went for a walk among the vines. Jeremy stopped to hug me and then wouldn’t let me keep walking. He finally, with a tremble in his voice, got down on one knee next to the vines and flowers and asked me to marry him. I hopped up and down and shouted yes!

Personal or handmade details: Goodness, all of them! I handmade all of the bouqets after repeatedly going to sales to acquire all of the silk flowers. The centerpieces were handmade with coffee filters and skewers, boxes and cloth. A bridesmaid and I beaded night-themed bookmarks (our wedding reception theme) and put them in bags with tea, sugar, and a note card with a link to a winding down playlist.

Describe your flowers: Silk! The white blooms were the style of peonies. The smaller blue flowers were simply pretty, with green foliage added to round out the look.

Memories and Stories about the Day: We had six attendants, four of whom were multi-decade friends of mine. It was so meaningful to see the tough, smart women I’ve been friends with for decades tear up as they watched me marry. I really saw the depth of their love in that. Dancing with my husband without choreography to our first dance song was romantic and just so much fun. I’ll also never forget how beautiful it was under the chuppah, reading our vows to one another as we choked up.

Your first dance song: “I choose you”, Sara Barrellis

The thing that we would have done differently is?  Nothing! We made a point of thoughtfully choosing things that we wanted (a sweetheart table, to actually eat at our reception, to not feel we were “performing” during our first dance) and it paid off!

Your advice for other plus size brides: Look everywhere for the right gown, and pick something you can have fun in! I knew from my daily wear that I didn’t like overly stiff gowns, so I looked for something I could move freely in and wear my usual style of bra with. I ended up on Amazon and with some excellent alterations, it looked amazing!

Three adjectives that describe the day: Tender, Natural, Genuine

What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? How chill everyone has been about us both hyphenating our last names! We expected possible pushback, but everyone has been great.
