REAL WEDDING | Midwest Wedding in Indianapolis | Dauss FOTO Wedding Photography

This rustic wedding in Indiana, more specifically Indianapolis: my current hometown, served up plenty of laughter and fun. Korey and Zach married at Washington Township Park’s Pavilion Center. Their wedding was full of creative touches and bucked tradition—the couple served cookies instead of cake. I just love that! Korey is a plus-size model who works in weddings, check out some of her work here including her engagement session, so it was easy for her to figure out her wedding vision. Beautiful photos! Congrats to you both.

Tell us about your wedding: Korey did the majority of the planning and organizing with Zach being busy traveling a lot as a corporate trainer for Dave & Busters.  She had plenty of time to be creative and crafty doing all of the center pieces that doubled as favors and arranging the flowers the days leading up to the wedding with the help of friends and family. We decided from the beginning that we wanted our special day to be laid back and fun-just our style. We decided not to include traditions for tradition’s sake (no cake?!?) and be true to ourselves with tacos, cookies and lots of 90’s music! We wanted a venue that surrounded us with nature, but didn’t limit us too much on vendor choices. The Pavilion was gorgeous and very easy to work with. As a plus size model who works primarily in the bridal market, Korey had her eye on Dauss from Dauss Foto shortly after the engagement. He has the ability to capture beautiful romantic moments, both small and grand. Wedding Colors: Cool shades of blue & purple + accents of silver How did the two of you meet? Through a mutual friend (the maid of honor!) Describe your engagement: Zach proposed at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago on Korey’s last college spring break. Korey loves butterflies and aside from Zach’s proposal being delayed slightly by a school field trip passing through, that moment will always be absolutely perfect to Korey. Afterwards, we went to Giordano’s for deep dish pizza. Personal or handmade details: Mikimoto pearls given to her by her maternal grandmother shortly before her mind was taken by Alzheimer’s. Korey’s engagement ring was originally purchased by Zach’s grandparents for his little sister who passed away several years ago. Korey purchased and painted all vases with maid of honor. Describe your flowers: White, blue & purple hydrangea. Lavender tinted babies breach. Memories and Stories about the Day: The rain was coming down extremely hard as we arrived at the venue in the morning. The bride had decided to accept it was going to keep them under cover, but the storms went to either side and the rain stopped for the duration of the ceremony & reception. After the wedding, the bride and groom noshed on some chips and ice cream back at the hotel and talked about the day until they were too tired to go on. Your first dance song: God Gave Me You-Blake Shelton The thing that we would have done differently is? Invite more people! We had some people who couldn’t make it at the last minute. Your advice for other plus size brides: Go out of your comfort zone when it comes to trying on gowns. It doesn’t hurt to try a few on that a stylist recommends.  Three adjectives that describe the day: Perfect, romantic, fun What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? Zach travels for work and had to leave to Myrtle Beach only 3 days after the wedding. It was tough to be apart, but made our reunion that much sweeter when he got home! Getting used to my new last name and Zach is not used to wearing any jewelry, so it’s taken a bit for him to get used to it.
