We’re climbing into to an Iceland car rental and taking Pretty Pear Bride to Iceland today for our real wedding feature! You’ll just adore Lacey and Kyle’s beautiful gold, gray and blush colored wedding. Kyle, who’s a newspaper copy editor, first met Lacey when he did a “man on the street” type profile story on her. How cute is that? We love all the gorgeous aspects of Lacey and Kyle’s wedding, including Lacey’s lovely DIY invites. Congratulations you two!

Lacey + Kyle

How did the two of you meet? Kyle worked at a newspaper as a copyeditor, while Lacey was working at the EPA. His lunch break was around the same time Lacey would be working out at the lake. They saw each other almost daily and would exchange smiles and nods that eventually turned into hellos and waves. Kyle approached Lacey one day to do a ‘man on the street’ profile (Which was his way of learning her name) and the rest was history. Describe your engagement: Kyle and Lacey bonded over many things including video games. Kyle created a level in Mario maker that spelled out ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME?’ in coins. Personal or handmade details: The illusion neckline was handmade and added to the dress by Carole Kinney Design. Lacey’s father passed away during their engagement and a swatch from his shirt was sewn into her dress in the shape of a heart. Describe your Flowers: Ethereal and natural with punches of color. Didn’t want to take away from the natural beauty of Iceland only complement it. Memories and Stories about the Day: Our goal for our wedding was to get our friends and family to go on an adventure with us. We were able to get an amazing group of people to travel on a tour bus on a remote and beautiful Island touring and seeing the sights and getting married. We all spent a week in Iceland and then went our separate ways either back home, or off to Europe it was an amazing ride. Having Kyle’s mom there, hiking up a hill at 65 has got to be our favorite memory from our wedding. She was a trooper. Drinking water straight from the stream of the waterfall we got married in front of, eating berries and arctic thyme plucked from the fields. Rejoicing in nature. The day was perfect! The thing that we would have done differently is? It would have been great to get ready in separate areas besides different bedrooms in the same house. Created more of an itinerary for our weddings guests. Destination weddings can require more work to accommodate guests than expected. In Iceland, nail salons are very unlike American nail salons, had I done my research I would have done my nails before leaving. If we could have spent our wedding dollars differently, we would have: We really wouldn’t change much. It worked out really well and we researched a lot. If you’re doing a destination wedding read any and everything you can, especially about the weather! Your advice for other plus size brides: If you’re very self conscious go in either by yourself or with a trusted person and do a pre- consult to find shapes and silhouettes you might like before going in with a larger group. A good makeup artist and spanx are your best friend. What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? Being together for nearly 7 years before marriage we had built a life together. We purchased a home a year and a half before marriage and we have worked towards a mutual respect and admiration for one another. This year we have adventured more which reinvigorates our love for one another, we hope to continue to fall in love each year!
