REAL WEDDING | Classic and Romantic Massachusetts Wedding | Stephen Sedman Photography

Today we are sharing a wedding that is full of romantic, vintage and classic touches.  I just the love the regal and refined look of the bride and groom and all their decor choices. This is definitely one I would have wanted an invite to! Check out more below.

Colleen & Matthew

Tell us about your wedding: Our wedding took place on the four year anniversary of our first date. The venue we chose was the first one we toured and I immediately set my heart on it’s gorgeous ballroom. Our theme was a classic, romantic wedding with some vintage-inspired touches. My husband and I both like to travel, so we wanted to incorporate that into a few details as well, such as the cake and the “guestbook” map canvas. We wrote our own vows to each other to give the ceremony a more personal, intimate feel.

Wedding Colors: Gold and Silver-Grey, with some neutral pastel accents

How did the two of you meet? OkCupid! We matched and he asked me to meet him for a drink at a bar downtown. We both discovered that we had shared interest in scifi shows and was aghast that I hadn’t watched “Firefly” and said that on our second date, he would make sure that I watched at least one episode. The rest is history!

Describe your engagement: On March 8th, 2017, we took a mini road trip to the Madame Sherri Forest to see the castle ruins there and take our dog, Merry, for a little adventure. Matt had suggested this trip a few days prior and I was really excited to see the ruins! After a two hour drive we spent talking and laughing, plus one very harrowing drive down a narrow and steep dirt road, we arrived at our destination. After taking a short walk up a trail with Merry, we headed back towards the ruins. I loved being able to look around and learn about the history of the area. I sat under a stone staircase on a little bench and when I looked up, Matt was on one knee with an absolutely beautiful ring in his hand! I was completely stunned and very emotional ( Merry was too but I think she thought the ring was edible), after the initial shock wore off, I said yes of course!

Personal or handmade details: For my own personal touch, I used a piece of my mother’s wedding dress to wrap my bouquet

Describe your flowers: I’m obsessed with quicksand roses! My florist did such an amazing job bringing my floral vision to life. She was the one who suggested the champagne blush roses (quicksand, sahara) to match my dress and they were such a great choice, I asked for a few amnesia roses as well and the dusty mauve color was a great accent.

Memories and Stories about the Day: It was a great party! We got a lot of compliments on our music choices and the dance floor was packed the whole night. A conga line/party train spontaneously made an appearance a few times during the night, surprisingly led by my husband’s college roommate who did one of the readings during the ceremony. My husband had friends visiting from Ireland that we all met during the rehearsal dinner and my dad said “dilly dilly to my new friends from across the pond” during his welcome speech which  both thought was pretty hilarious. Prior to leaving for the venue, I texted my husband a picture of our dog with a sign that said” My Humans are Getting Married” which he thought was very touching!

Your first dance song: “Feeling Good” covered by Michael Buble

The thing that we would have done differently is? During the last few weeks, I was getting a bit stressed over smaller details and I wish I had just learned to let go of that and just enjoy the days leading up to the wedding rather than worrying about it.

Your advice for other plus size brides: We all have insecurities (even non-plus sized brides) but I promise you that on your wedding day, you won’t be thinking about them at all…everyone will be there to witness you and your husband make a public vow of your love for each other and the feelings that result from that will overwhelm any critical internal thoughts. I would advise to look at images of other plus-sized brides for inspiration and don’t be afraid to try on many different styles of dress, speak with your photographer, etc to achieve the best look for you!

Three adjectives that describe the day: Romantic, intimate, fun

What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? We’ve lived together for almost three years at the time we were married, so daily life after all the excitement wasn’t all that different, but I was surprised by how “different” I felt, just this sense of calm happiness after sharing such a special day with all our loved ones.
