REAL WEDDING | Blue, Gold and White Destination Wedding | Karina Jensen

Megan and Joseph married in a destination wedding at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Their sunny wedding was less of a theme but more like an embodiment of their love for each other. They had it at the Huracan Café, an Italian restaurant and wedding venue in the Dominican. Through a gorgeous blend of blue, gold and white, their wedding decor shined. The lovely couple met through a mutual friend but didn’t really start chatting until Megan drove Joseph home from a bar and they both started talking. Too cute! Wishing you all the best.

Tell us about your wedding: We wanted less of a theme but more like our wedding to embody our love for each other. We just wanted a delicate look and the location to shine through. We decided to have a destination wedding at the Huracan Cafe in the Dominican Republic. It was such a magical day of love and laughter. Wedding Colors: Blue, gold and white How did the two of you meet? We met through a mutual friend, we didn’t start really talking to each other until I drove him home from the bar talking about how we both wanted to go to an Imagine Dragons concert. Describe your engagement: Our engagement was low key. I was finishing up Business school so a destination wedding was ideal for us because I could plan but other people doing the brunt of the work. Personal or handmade details: We had lots of little touches throughout the wedding. We both made our cigar box for our cigar and whiskey station. I wore my grandmothers garter from her wedding day. I had my Pop-pop’s gold star from the army on my silk flower Bouquet. My aunt made my wedding bracelet and earrings. I had a special grooms cake made with a Star Wars Storm Trooper themed cake topper. Another special detail we had was a ring warming dish we used during our ceremony where our guests could wish good vibes and blessings onto our rings. Describe your flowers: My flower picks were blue hydrangeas and white roses. Memories and Stories about the Day: The love and happiness I felt that day still gives me butterflies. My Husband and I had so much fun at our intimate wedding with out guests. We were missing a few people who couldn’t make the trip but even in another country people reached out to make us feel special. My grandfather passed away two weeks before our wedding and I felt like he showered up to say hi. We were taking our couple portraits when there was a brief sun shower and later a rainbow popped out. It felt like he was giving us good luck in our marriage. Another fun moment was I had the storm trooper themed cake topper made for the grooms cake. It was a surprise for my husband, Joe. They had us all gather at the bar to take a group drink together. After we had a short blessing and we all took a shot the imperial march theme played and they presented Joe with his grooms cake. His smile filled with love and joy will be something I’ll always remember about the wedding. My husband and I ended up taking a bite out of the cake since we didn’t have something in that moment to cut it with. I then passed it among our guests to take a bite out of it. My second favorite moment was us dancing to our first dance. We danced under the stars with the waves in the background. That was the most magical moment I have ever felt. I loved feeling the ocean breeze in my hair while we both sang to each other the words of the song. Your first dance song: Stolen by Dashboard Confessional The thing that we would have done differently is? Skip out on the photo booth. I had so much else going on in the wedding our guests barely used it. Made sure to stop and smile at our photographers and videographers more during the day. I feel like we don’t have a lot of photos of use looking at the camera. Mostly just action shots.  Your advice for other plus size brides: Don’t stress on how big you look. Your confidence and happiness will shine through the photos. When dress shopping make sure to ask if the shop carries your size to try on and if they don’t leave. Don’t stay and play make believe as you hold the dress up against your body.  Three adjectives that describe the day: Love, Laughter and Magic What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? How nothing changed. I didn’t become instantly happier. We remained just as much in love as we were before the wedding. That the wedding just cemented our feelings.
