From the Bride: Chris and I are a pretty easy going couple, so a garden wedding and brunch reception seemed like a good fit for us. Because an earlier wedding/reception is a little non-traditional, it really seemed to lend itself to personal, more “outside the box” touches – our grandparents as flower girls/ring bearer, a reading from a children’s book, singing Happy Birthday as a surprise for my aunt and Chris’ niece during the ceremony, the unicorn thing, etc. Plus, hello, who doesn’t love brunch? I had people threatening to crash my wedding if they weren’t invited because they said it sounded like so much fun. Not to toot my own horn, but it totally was! And despite the cool weather, too! We’d been keeping an eye on the forecast and it wasn’t looking promising, so at the last minute we ended up ordering dozens of fleece blankets for our guests to snuggle up with because I really wanted to stick with our outdoor plans even though it was only supposed to be in the upper 30s/low 40s that day. We ended up not needing all of them – it pays to have a guest list comprised primarily of hearty Minnesotan stock who take dressing for the weather seriously – but it was definitely worth it to have them on hand just in case! And now when people talk about it, they don’t even mention the temperature. All they remember was a gorgeous, sunny day in an absolutely stunning location! (And the ham. Everyone was obsessed with the ham carving station that was part of the buffet!)
