Engagement pictures are supposed to be a reflection of you and your significant other. So if that means that you both like two separate themes to your engagement session that is perfectly fine. Why not incorporate both? This lovely couple shot by La Brisa Photography in Kansas did just that. They wanted the best of both worlds an outdoor session and a night session with dancing and walking in the streets. I think they did a fantastic job merging their two loves together. Check out what happens when you mix and outdoor session during and a downtown night session….trust me it’s EPIC!
Meagan & Scott
Engagement Date: June 27, 2014 in Manhattan, KS
Wedding Date: January 9, 2016
Tell us about your first meeting.. Meagan – We met at work, where the culture is really relaxed and fun. At a work party, we got to talking during a game of flippy cup on a conference room table and instantly hit it off. Scott – We met at work, at one of the First Friday social events sponsored by the company. We had seen each other around before that of course, but this was the first time we really got to know each other. After some drinking games and a trip to Aggieville, we exchanged numbers. I called her the next day, and the day after that we had our first date!
Tell us about your First Date… Meagan – Two days after the work party, we went on our first date at Old Chicago. It was a nice date, but the sparks weren’t really there like they were at the work party. We didn’t hang out again until a few months later. I invited myself over to Scott’s house to watch movies, and we ended up spending the entire night laughing, drinking quite a few beers, he had a list of “would you rather?” questions that taught us a lot about each other, and really enjoying being together. We have been inseparable since then! Scott – Our first date was at Old Chicago on a Sunday afternoon, two days after the First Friday event. After that we didn’t see each other for a few months, when Meagan came over for movie night. She hadn’t seen my house yet, so after a quick tour and a bit of whiskey, we talked and flirted for hours. Oh, and there were movies too!
Tell us about your First Kiss… Meagan – Our first kiss was the night I invited myself to his house, while we were watching The Big Lebowski. I laughed at one point during the movie and I turned to look at Scott, who had been looking at me. He smiled, took my face in his hands, and kissed me. It was perfect! Scott – It was at my house during movie night. We made it through the first movie, but only made it halfway through the second before I leaned over… and let’s just say we weren’t paying much attention to the movie after that!
Tell us about the proposal… Meagan – The Wednesday before it happened, Scott had told me that he had to go out of town to work with a client on Friday. The problem was that we were going out of town Friday night with my parents, and I was worried he wouldn’t be back in time. He assured me it would be fine, so Friday came and I left work early to get my nails done. Scott called me and told me he had made it home in time, and instead of him getting in my car and heading to my parent’s house – asked if I would come into our apartment first. When I got inside, I noticed that he had my favorite flowers in a massive bouquet on the dining room table. He took me by the hand, led me into our living room, and (while trembling) proceeded to tell me all of the romantic things that anyone wants to hear right before a proposal. He reached behind me, pulled the ring box off the shelf, and opened it to the most stunning ring I had ever seen. Through my tears, I said yes – it was the most magical moment of my life. The client visit was a ruse – he went to Kansas City to pick up the ring and ask my dad for his blessing. Scott – I created a work excuse for going out of town that day, but work was the farthest thing from my mind! Instead, I went to Kansas City to get the ring, and the perfect diamond that the jeweler had only received a couple days before. I had already been talking to them, so they knew what I was looking for. On the way back, I made a detour to her dad’s office, where he met me in the parking lot and gave his blessing. By this point it was the end of the day, and I headed home to prepare for the big moment. I hid the ring on a shelf and waited for Meagan to come home, but I was so excited I couldn’t sit still, and paced all around the apartment! Finally she came home, and I led her to a corner of the living room next to the hidden ring. Looking around the apartment, we could see the life we had created together; the life that I wanted to spend forever with her. I got down on one knee, and she said yes!!
Write a short letter to each other ~

Scott – My dear Meagan, I love you with all of my heart and soul. Just thinking of you makes my heart happy, and I cannot imagine spending a day without you. I’m the luckiest man in the world!

From the Photographer: This awesome couple is having their wedding in a Kansas City brewery- but engagement photos took place where we all call home; Manhattan Kansas. This super stylish lady filled me in on all the great ways to utilize Rent the Runway, which is what’s happening for bridesmaid dresses. Meagan herself rented a cocktail-style version of her floor-length bridesmaid dresses to see how it would photograph for the wedding. Genius, am I right?? Otherwise– we had previously discussed their desire for some beautiful natural-light photos, but additionally for a few highlights of manhattan’s downtown lit up at night. They also fed me pizza and wine while we took a break waiting for it to get dark. Does a session get better than that? No. No it does not. The best surprise of the evening happened as we wrapped up at local favorite restaurant, Harry’s. They were clearing out the dining room for a cleaning day– and offered us the rare opportunity to shoot in the wide open, historic, dining room.
