I remember growing up I used to dread searching for a new bathing suit when it was time for swimsuit season. In the late ‘90s, there just weren’t many options. I recall being incredibly frustrated in department store dressing rooms, trying on leopard print bust minimizer skirted numbers at the age of 13.
Now, at 30, I am relieved and elated at the bathing suit choices we have today. Sure, there are still skirted numbers, but they have a sexy retro flair to them. Plus-size bikinis are having a moment too. We put together a collection of some of the most fun, flattering and hot swimsuits this season. Whether you’re headed to your tropical honeymoon or celebrating a year (or two…or three…) of wedded bliss, we’ve got a suit for you.
Target’s New Marimekko Collection
This bikini comes in sizes 1x-3x (online only) and is part of Target’s new Marimekko Collection, out this month. For those who remember, Marimekko was popular in the ‘60s and ‘70s when Jackie Kennedy wore a pink dress from the designer on the cover of Sports Illustrated. They’re known for their bold eclectic patterns. This “Appelsiini” design has just enough coverage but is still fun and colorful.
Lane Bryant’s Strappy Swim One-Piece with Built-In Bandeau Bra
You can’t go wrong with Lane Bryant, especially this retro in the front, super sexy in the back suit. In traditional black and available in sizes 14-28, this suit is a good investment, as it will set you back $120.50. Best of all, the built-in bandeau bra supports your girls in the best way possible.
Forever 21’s Plus-Size Floral One-Piece
I am just in love with this adorable bright canary yellow one-piece from Forever 21. The floral pattern and cutout in the sexiest place makes it so fun. Best of all, I love the retro feel to it with the skirt. The greatest thing about this suit? The halter strap is detachable, so if you dare to go strapless you can! For $32.90, it’s the most affordable on the list.
Torrid’s Twist Front Bikini
Torrid has created such a gorgeous bright cherry red bikini, I’m tempted to buy it for myself! I love the ruching on the bottoms to hide any problem areas and the top’s straps that can be worn straight or criss-crossed. Newlyweds take note: I see this one on tropical honeymoons everywhere.
Old Navy’s Shirred Plus-Size Tankini in Blue Chevron
Nothing says summer like a chevron pattern and this tankini from Old Navy doesn’t disappoint. I love the best of both worlds aspect with this tankini—the halter top is cute and the bra has removable padding. Add a big floppy hat and hello anniversary getaway!
