PLANNING | Plan Your Wedding Without Losing Your Mind

ELEGANT AND INTIMATE CANADIAN WEDDING

Weddings happen every day somewhere in this world and every day there are stressed out brides struggling to enjoy their major life event. Most articles talk about all the details you need to remember and the timeline to get them done. Or they talk about the specifics of finding the perfect florist, disc jockey, or venue. Today, we want to talk about managing the stress that comes with planning your wedding. Let’s face it, you will get stressed and we are here to help you cope.

Hire The Pro

No matter what your budget is, hire a professional to help you with the planning. No, not a family member or a dear friend despite the fact that we love the sentiment. A professional, such as Wonderstruck Events, is trained and knows the business better than anyone else. They have connections and can help streamline your schedule and free you up to truly enjoy your day. Why say no to family and friends? Because as much as they love you and want you to have the best day, they will drive you crazier than a hired pro. Let them enjoy your day with you rather than stressing about details and dumping the stress back to you. If you have any family or friends that insist on helping with something, give them a small task to help with. They will feel like a part of your event and avoid a major commitment for them that won’t bring them joy. Looking for wedding photographers Northern VA, call Jessica Smith Photography.

Accept The Inevitable

The worst thing you can do is expect a picture-perfect day with no issues arising. Truth is something will not go according to your plan and it’s okay. You may forget something, the cake might arrive late, it may rain on your outdoor wedding, or the limo might break down. If you go into your planning with a clear understanding that life is not perfect, and your wedding won’t be either, you will be able to roll with the punches a lot easier. On the flipside, do not just assume the worst in every situation. That will drive you insane if you cloud every decision with the possibility of a bad outcome. The important rule to remember is that the wedding does not make the marriage. It’s just the beginning of a new life and does not reflect what will come ahead.

Create A Coping Plan

So maybe you found out that the venue burned down, the florist can’t find your flower order, and the band has been arrested with just a week left to your wedding. How do you cope? Before you begin your planning, sit down and come up with a coping plan. This may mean that you learn a grounding technique to help you breathe through stressful phone calls or bad news. It could mean taking a walk when you are tired of hearing your mother talk about you wearing her dress from the 1970’s.  Having a clear plan for coping with the big stress will help you and your fiancée take control sooner and quicker.

Adopt Extra Self-Care

Watch an episode of Bridezillas and you can see people who are in dire need of some time to rest and relax. Weddings can be stressful enough, not taking care of yourself can add to that stress even more. Make sure you continue to take good care of your physical self. That may mean limiting how often you eat at a drive-thru (yes, we know how much easier it is than cooking after working and checking out venues all day), scheduling a couples massage with a mobile massage therapist, or spending 15 minutes every morning in quiet meditation or solitude. If you and the bridal party are getting manicures/pedicures before the big day, make it a spa day so that you can relax and enjoy yourself! If it brings you joy and peace, it will make planning that much easier.

No matter what, your wedding planning should be enjoyable. If you can’t find one way to achieve something you want, think outside the box and find a different way. Most importantly, don’t lose sight of why you are getting married!
