Weddings are changing. Many couples are doing away with the old customs and doing things their own way, free from the constraints of tradition. Fewer people are getting married in churches, more are opting not to wear white, and a lot of women are even choosing their own engagement rings.

Right here, right now, we’ll take a look at the various pros and cons of women are choosing to go engagement ring shopping with their husbands to be:

You Get Something You Really Love

I’m sure every woman loves her engagement ring for what it represents, but if we’re being honest, we all know at least one married gal who thinks her engagement ring is tacky, ugly or just not her style. It’s such a shame because, hopefully, they will be wearing that ring for the rest of their life, and if they hate it that’s kind of a bummer.

The biggest benefit, therefore, to choosing your own engagement ring is that you can get exactly what you want. Perhaps you love yellow engagement rings, or you want a big pink rock to show off for the rest of your life, or maybe you like keeping things really simple, and you’d feel uncomfortable with a big diamond on your finger, well if you go along with your hubby to be, you can get exactly what you want and everyone will be happy.

It Relieves the Pressure

Your beau loves you, and that means that he wants to pick out the perfect engagement ring, the one that will leave you speechless and in tears when he puts it on your finger, BUT he doesn’t know the first thing about ring shopping and fashion isn’t exactly his forte. This can leave him feeling really, really stressed out when he should be feeling amazing. By offering to choose your ring together, if that’s what you want to do, you can relieve the pressure on him and have fun finding the right ring together.

It’s Fun

Most men don’t exactly enjoy shopping for jewelry, but a lot of us girls are in our element trawling through the local jewelry stores looking for the perfect piece, so why deny ourselves that pleasure? Our guys will surely enjoy it more when they see our enthusiasm too.

Lack of Surprise

The biggest con of choosing your own engagement ring is that there will be no surprise unveiling moment to wow you, but when you consider the fact that you could be shocked in completely the wrong way with a ring you hate, this doesn’t seem like too much of an issue.

The Money Issue

If you’re choosing your own ring, your guy will have to tell you what the budget is. This could prove to be awkward and embarrassing for one or both of you if you don’t handle it correctly. You could both keep in mind custom silicone rings if money is an issue; there are in fact numerous benefits to getting a ring like this as they are comfortable, versatile, replaceable and affordable.

He Might want to Do It

Last, but not least, you need to consider whether your man has been looking forward to choosing something special for you. If he has and you insist on choosing yourself, he could be pretty upset!
