New York Times Honors Plus Size Bride Representation

I still remember the first time I Googled “plus size wedding inspiration” back in 2011 and came up with… nothing.

No dresses.
No couples.
No joy.
Just silence.

That silence is the reason Pretty Pear Bride exists. I created this space because I wanted every bride—especially plus size brides like me—to see themselves reflected in the wedding world. Not just as a token, not just as a side note, but as the main character.

And now, here we are—in the freaking New York Times.

Y’all, I’m still trying to process what it means to be featured featured in a newspaper that I’ve loved for so long. I cried when I read the headline. I cried again when I saw the words “Shafonne Myers, founder of Pretty Pear Bride and Aisle Society,” printed in black and white. Because this moment? It isn’t just about me.

It’s about every bride who ever felt like she had to shrink herself to be worthy of the spotlight.
It’s about every person who thought their dream wedding didn’t count because they didn’t fit into a sample size.
It’s about visibility. And representation. And joy.

The article which you can read here highlights the reality we’ve been shouting from the rooftops for over a decade: plus size brides are not a niche. We are the moment. We deserve gowns that fit, planners who get it, photographers who know our angles, and media that sees us fully.

This NYT feature shines a light on the work we’ve all been doing—you, our community, included. Pretty Pear Bride was never about me alone. It was built by every bride who submitted her wedding, every vendor who believed in us, and every reader who said “thank you” after seeing herself in one of our posts.

So today, I’m taking a minute to soak it all in and I invite you to do the same. Celebrate this win with me. Because this is just the beginning.

We’re not just pretty.
We’re powerful.
And we’re finally being seen.

With all my love and tears of joy,
Shafonne
