{Fashion Friday} World Renowned Plus Size Bridal Designer ~ Kemi Farquharson
It is with great excitement and graciousness that I introduce UK’s Kemi Farquharson of Kemi Boutique who we have partnered with as a media sponsor for her upcoming Bridal Show, Loving Your Curves, the UK’s First Plus Size Wedding Fair & Fuller Figured Expo. We wanted to introduce you to her as a designer and a little about where she came from. We are doing a full feature on her and her designs in our upcoming summer issue so be on the look out for it. Kemi Farquharson was born in Lagos, Nigeria and moved to London, UK when she was 9. She established a first career in Business and Finance and spent her spare time following her passion for creative elements throughout her early twenties where she pursued small projects in events planning, pre-production of a TV programme and operating a camera for a Christian cable channel. While knowing she would always start her own creative business Kemi Farquharson had not yet discovered just what that would be. At 24 Kemi was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and took some years to embrace her curves and redefine her syndrome. It was during her late twenties when frustrated with the European plus size market Kemi started to travel extensively to Jamaica and inspired by life, travel and the beauty of the Caribbean she began designing her own plus size collection. Over the next few years Kemi Farquharson undertook some market research, wrote a business plan and went back to college to study professional sewing, pattern cutting, draping, fashion illustration and tailoring at Morley College & Newham College.
After Kemi’s studies and while starting to offer a bespoke service Kemi Farquharson undertook some design internships with established designers and gained insightful experience and encouragement. WIth growing support for her services and collections in London, Lagos and Montego Bay Kemi Farquharson launched Kemi Boutique.
As a Designer Kemi’s collections reflect her passion for love, colour, life and travel whilst her personal and professional experience with curves reflect her daring and intuitive use of fabrics, prints and colour to flatter and show off the beauty of the curvy female silhouette.
Kemi has a passion for providing choice and luxury to plus size ladies in an intimate and fun way. “I know what it is like to not be able to access services of clothing because of my size, I also vividly remember how I felt 5 years ago looking for a plus size wedding dress. That is my motivation, to ensure that the ladies I come in contact with never feel that way when interacting with my business or brand. So as a Plus Size Bridal Designer when I heard curvy bride’s frustration on their experiences at some wedding fairs I founded Loving Your Curves, the UK’s First Plus Size Wedding Fair & Fuller Figured Expo.
