I am not a fan of cold weather….AT ALL but for the sake of good photo, I’m a sucka! And I’m so glad that this couple and their photographer, Jill Coursen Photography are too because they battled some cold weather and still made it through with gorgeous images.
Steve and Nicole
Steve and I had a fantastic engagement shoot and would love to share all the wintery-red brick-statement necklace-goodness with you!
We picked the absolute coldest day in Edmonton to shoot- it was -48 degrees Celsius (that’s -54 Fahrenheit!). We ploughed through the chill anyways, and had a blast. Our love of beer and exposed brick led us to the fantastic Mercer Tavern, in the heart of Edmonton’s Downtown Warehouse District, with warm soft lighting and original hardwood. It was the perfect backdrop for late winter light to pour in and nothing – not even the bitter cold- could keep us from giggling and having fun.
Jill had us sneak into the women’s washroom to take advantage of their stunning brick walls (don’t worry, we made sure no one was in there!) and tuck ourselves behind a few whiskey barrels to get some stunning shots. We wanted to let the space speak for itself, no props needed! The gold wallpaper and deer antlers gave a cool modern and rustic vibe and the tufted black bar was a surprisingly comfortable backdrop with punch.
After Mercer’s Tavern, we braved the cold and took a few pictures outside of the Alberta Art Gallery- a stunning sculptural modern space. Popping into the front lobby to take advantage of their stunning glass and metal architecture, we warmed up a bit and wrapped up the session!
