ENGAGEMENT | Mount Agamenticus Mountain Session| Samantha Grant Photography

Destinee & Kenny’s engagement session was like a dream. They all met at the summit of Mount Agamenticus in York, Maine – the place where they had their first date. It was freezing and the sun was setting quickly because there was a snow storm rolling in that evening, but that didn’t stop their smiles and snuggles with their pup!

Destinee & Kenny

How did you meet? Kenny and I met through a mutual friend at their place of employment! We both build military firearms for a living, and got out of work at nearly 2:30AM that day. I was covered in gun grease, looking like a complete mess exhausted after a 10 hour shift, and he just kept smiling at me. He actually wasn’t on the same shift as me, and was in for overtime the night we met. After we met, he conveniently kept coming in for overtime (more than usual) and we got very close over the following weeks.

What is your proposal story?Well, it’s a funny one. Kenny fake proposed for MONTHS. He’d do silly things like get on one knee and ask me to help him take out the garbage, or go grocery shopping, or cook dinner. So the night that he actually proposed, I thought it was a joke! He took me out to a nice dinner, and got down on one knee outside of the restaurant. He hadn’t pulled out a ring yet, so I thought it was a joke, so I playfully pushed his shoulder. We started walking back to our apartment, he tried again but froze up and asked me to get ice cream with him inside. FINALLY, he proposed with the ring out while we were laying in bed, eating ice cream and watching Chopped. It’s not a traditional proposal by any means, but I loved it.

Tell us about the ring/band. My ring is a custom designed ring from Olive Avenue Jewelry. I am a creative person and wanted a ring that was unique and could be passed down to any children we may have AND something that wasn’t overly marked up like traditional jewelers. It’s a 14k rose gold, double halo pear setting. The halo is made with conflict free diamonds and my center stone is a peach morganite–my favorite gem!

Tell us about your outfits: I wanted something that was true to us. I stressed so much about the outfits that I had to sit down and really re-center myself! Our engagement shoot took place at the top of the mountain where we had our first date–so we kept our first outfit simple with jeans and sweaters. It made us feel really comfortable and relaxed! Our second outfits I wanted a little fancier–but nothing extreme. I searched for weeks and finally found the perfect dress from PinkBlush!

Any advice for your fellow plus size brides? Don’t get stressed, haha! I know that’s easier said than done. And try not to put too much pressure on yourself. You are beautiful, and strong, and worthy as you are! Don’t focus on the struggles of being a plus size bride, but instead focus on your significant other and your beautiful self!
