This is a very common question, especially because so many brides are falling into this classification, including myself. According to Wikipedia, anyone consisted plus size is size 12 and up. Now if you ask me that is a VERY large number of brides out there that are constantly being under represented. So what exactly is a plus size bride to do….
Now, I will say that we as plus size brides have come a long way to get the validation and recognition that we deserve. I got married 7 {Update: YEP, now it’s 9} years ago and I knew going into the bridal salons that there wasn’t going to be MY size on the rack. And I would have to try on a dress that was too small for me and have to tolerate a dress that didn’t zip or fasten in the back but I would be able to “see” how the dress would look from the front. {Update} This is what some of us plus size brides have had to endure and it’s horrible, disgraceful and demeaning. I mean, WHO wants to go get a dress that represents the most important day in their life and be made to hang a dress around their neck to get an image of how it looks or be made to prance around in the middle of a shop with others looking on at a dress that is clipped and doesn’t even cover up their backside. I know, for sure, I don’t and I can guarantee that I’m not alone. But it has gotten better and there has been tremendous growth in the plus size wedding gown arena, from David’s Bridal Women Collection and Vera Wang’s White Collection, Alfred Angelo, to handmade couture plus size bridal fashions by Etsy Vendors.

Yes, plus size bridal fashions have come a long way but there is still room for improvements. We as plus size brides have to embrace our size and realize that we too deserve to have amazing plus size designer wedding gowns for our wedding day.
