{Wedding Tip Thursday} Invitations

Etsy Shop: Invitations by Emily

When it comes to anything related to your wedding planning, the smallest details are discussed and possibly argued over. This is certainly no exception when it comes down to all your wedding stationary.

All of your wedding stationary sets the tone for the day. It will most likely showcase your theme, colors, location, who the host is, and if the wedding is casual or more formal.

Wedding invitations are usually sent out six to eight weeks ahead of time allowing your guests enough time to respond and make arrangements. Due to the time constraints of your invitations it is best to plan all of your wedding stationary as soon as possible.

Below are a few helpful and money saving tips:

  1. Aim to send out invitations 8 weeks before your wedding date; especially if you have family or friends that need to travel.
  2. Request RSVP’s around 4 weeks before your wedding date, or whenever your caterer needs a head count.
  3. Square invitations require an additional $0.20 in postage.
  4. To save on the expense of extra postage, you can request a phone number/e-mail RSVP instead of a response card.
  5. Wedding websites are easy to create and a great way to list details that may not fit on your invitations.
  6. Remember to count households rather than individual guests when deciding on how many invitations to order.
  7. Always order a few extra in case of last minute additions (and for keepsakes).
  8. Have one invitation set weighed at the Post Office to make sure you are using the correct amount of postage. The Post Office has beautiful wedding-themed stamps!
  9. Ask your post office to “hand cancel” the invitations. This means that they won’t go through the machine and prevents extra wear and tear.
  10.  Use a glue stick so that you don’t have to lick every envelope. 🙂
  11.  Incorporate your theme into your save the dates and bridal shower invitations as well.
  12.  Be creative! There are plenty of dos and don’ts for wedding etiquette. Always make sure to add in your own flair!
