REAL WEDDING | Plum, Grey and Gold Vintage Wedding | Ryan Brandoff Photography

There is nothing better than doing something you love and knowing that it impacts others the same it impacts you.  That is how I feel about Pretty Pear Bride and getting submissions from brides that have truly used the site for planning and seeing their wedding in all it’s gloriousness is amazing.  It’s a true full circle moment. This wedding is so fabulous and I love that Pretty Pear Bride had such a huge impact on her during the planning process.

From the Bride: Your website served as a main source of inspiration for our wedding and so I’m submitting our pictures in appreciation for your help along the way. Even if you don’t find a use for this submission, I just want to thank you for supplying a platform for plus sized women to see that its OK to be a curvy bride and that we deserve to feel beautiful, too. You truly made a difference in not just the planning of my wedding but in how I feel about myself as a woman. Keep doing what you’re doing, please!

How did the two of you meet? We met through the dating website OK Cupid! Describe your engagement: Since Christmas is my favorite holiday, Fred planned with my parents to propose during our Christmas dinner with all of my close family and friends there. Nailed it! Personal or handmade details: I created everything paper – invites, programs, menus and made all of the escort cards and my friend and bridesmaid Julia made all of the beautiful chalkboard signs for the reception. My husband and a colleague of his designed all of the lighting for the reception. Describe your wedding flowers:  All very natural, organic bouquet shapes – focused on purple, white and greys. My favorite blooms Sarah at Four Finches used were the anemones. So beautiful! Memories and Stories about the Day: The moment the doors at the back of the church opened up and I saw Fred’s face at the altar – I thought I was going to pass out from the emotion. Happiness, excitement, and a feeling that everything made sense in that moment made me feel like I never had before. I will never forget that feeling. Your first dance song: All Of Me by John Legend The thing that we would have done differently is? Not freak out about the speeches and dances… I think my nerves were so wound up about them that I didn’t get to actually live in the moment and enjoy them fully. Thankfully, we had an amazing videographer so I was able to watch them all again and re-live the moments but I really wish I had been more present for them. Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Fred would say the lighting – he spent a lot of time working on it with colleagues and it turned out beautifully. I have a ton of favorite details, so it’s hard to narrow it down but I think our most fun details were the ones that gave a shout-out to our family backgrounds; like our piñata guestbook (for Fred’s Mexican heritage) and a sprig of rosemary in everyone’s napkin at the reception (a good luck tradition from my Croatian heritage). Your advice for other plus size brides: Don’t be afraid about finding a dress – I was so amazed by how many choices I had when shopping for mine. I couldn’t have felt more relieved than when I found my dress and realized that my worries leading up to the shopping excursion were warrantless. Three adjectives that describe the day: Special, heart-warming, perfect! What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? Fred and I lived together for 3.5 years before getting married so a lot of the firsts that many newlywed couples experienced didn’t happen for us but I will say that the main surprise I had was how much of an adjustment it was for me to change my last name. I think I had a bit of an identity crisis that lasted about a week after getting my license changed to Samantha Aguilar. I couldn’t be more happy to be an Aguilar but it took a few days to get used to it.
