REAL WEDDING | Magical Wedding in the Woods | Damien Furey Photography

Today’s wedding features an amazing wedding at a family farm that boasts a stunning bride and groom.  The couple had the farm for the whole weekend and glamped with the bridal party.  I am not a huge camper but I could definitely be a glamper. I can’t get over the magical feel of the wedding from the lights in the trees to the amazing arbor filled with lights.  It’s stunning, check out more below.

Ruth & Andrew

Tell us about your wedding:  “The venue was a family farm that has been converted into a wedding venue. It was in the middle of the bush and you got the space for the whole weekend. The ability to self-cater was really important to us so we could select all of the food and drink options ourselves. We had a Mexican food truck and Andrew’s Mum did a dessert table as well as lots of different drink options. We also glamped all weekend at the venue with our bridal party and a bunch of friends which made the whole weekend a really fun, social time. We wanted the wedding to feel really personal and like us. Our ceremony was particularly personal and we wrote our own vows and of course made each other cry. There was lots of music and delicious food all night and we really wanted everyone to just relax and have a great time.”

Wedding Colors: Silver/Grey with bright jewel tones

How did the two of you meet? We met when we were teenagers doing community theatre but didn’t start dating until we were 18. It was a showmance where I was the Assistant Director and he was the Musical Director! That was in 2006.

Describe your engagement: In 2016 was living in the UK for work and Andrew stayed living in Australia. He came over to visit me and we went away for a weekend to Bovey Castle in Devon. We went for a walk on the grounds when we arrived and Andrew said there was a song he wanted me to listen to. He’s a musician and he’d written me a song as we walked down an aisle that led up to a pergola. When we got to the pergola he got down on one knee and proposed.

Personal or handmade details: Our bombonieres were a CD which featured both the music used in our wedding and then a number of songs that Andrew had written for me over the course of our relationship. My wedding ring was made of several pieces of jewelry that were already in my family, a brooch of my Grandma’s and rings and necklaces of my Uncle and Grandpa’s. Our Mum’s play piano duets together and whilst we were signing the marriage register they played a piano duet.

Describe your flowers: I wanted really bright rainbow colors against the neutral grey/silver the bridal party were in. Our florist did an amazing job, they were so beautiful.

Memories and Stories about the Day: “During the speeches Andrew revealed that when they opened his garment bag for him to get dressed his suit pants were missing! In the end a friend of ours lent him his grey suit pants. I didn’t even notice until he said it! We found the missing pants the next day when we got home. The venue was also next to the bush and the fire department was burning off that weekend. Apparently at one point there was a possibility if the wind changed the fire may have come towards us and we would have to evacuate! The smoke in the air made for some great photos and lighting so it was all fine!”

Your first dance song: The Luckiest – Ben Folds

The thing that we would have done differently is? It was pretty much perfect, the only thing we would change is very small – we had most of our photos before the ceremony which we would definitely recommend to others. I just wish we’d used our bouquets in those photos! They were beautiful and I would’ve loved more photos with them in.

Your advice for other plus size brides: “Do not let anyone feel that you are less worthy to have the best day of your life just because of your size. You will read and hear so much that encourages you to lose weight for your day which is fine if that’s what you want to day but remember that your partner is not marrying you despite your size but because they love you and want to spend the rest of their life with you! My one piece of practical advice is if you can, go to a dedicated plus size bridal store. I didn’t end up buying my dress from one but I went for a fitting and tried on a dress of every silhouette in my size so I knew exactly what I wanted when I did buy mine. ”

Three adjectives that describe the day: Magical, fun, full of love

What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? We’d been together for 12 years before we got married and already owned a house together, etc so fundamentally not much has changed but we’ve loved sharing such a special moment with all our friends and family. It was a wonderful excuse for a big party and an amazing holiday in Greece!
