REAL WEDDING | Intimate Hawaiian Wedding | Oahu Pro Photography

Today’s wedding is a small intimate wedding that has so much symbolism.  Brittney and Jason got engaged in Hawaii and knew that they wanted to come back and get married there too. So they decided to have a very intimate beach wedding in the place that they both loved, Hawaii! Brittney wanted a beachy wedding and enlisted the help of a local wedding planner to help bring it all together and Hawaii Boutique Weddings did a fabulous job. Check out more below!

Tell us about your wedding: “Hawaii holds a very special place in our hearts. Our first trip to Oahu marked our engagement on Lanikai beach. We knew that when it came time to get married, we would be returning. We’re an extremely laid back couple but I am known to obsess over even the smallest of details, so I knew I wanted to invest in a company that would take care of the details for me. Hawaii Boutique Weddings had the perfect laid back vibe. We chose Waimanalo Bay Beach for it’s beauty; on one side is ocean, the other is trees and mountains. Waimanalo is also more of a local’s beach, so it’s less crowded and more intimate. I would describe my personal style for the day as ‘mermaid’. I really wanted a beachy, romantic feel to our wedding offset with bright florals. I feel like my dress matched perfectly to the scenery. I loved how flowy and earthy it felt. The back of my dress really sold me on it, as I loved it’s simple design. My dress was made from chiffon and lace, and I added that touch of sparkle with my accessories.”

How did the two of you meet? We actually “met” over the phone. We had both worked for the same optical company in different locations in different states. We started chatting and really getting to know each other. We created a really great friendship that blossomed into a relationship very quickly. After a couple of months of back and forth calls, I eventually got the nerve to travel states and visit Jason. We really hit it off and several visits later I made the decision to move to his location.

Describe your engagement: Our engagement was very private and very simple. We were walking along Lanikai Beach at sunset, talking about our future, and Jason asked if I’d like to marry him. One year and a half later, we returned for our wedding.

Personal or handmade details: It was really important to me to make the small items that I knew I was capable of. I had practiced for some time making flower crowns and knew I wanted to make mine for my wedding. I also made my own hair extensions.

Describe your flowers: My bouquet was a cascade made of stargazer lilies, orange roses, plumeria, bird of paradise, and purple orchids

Memories and Stories about the Day: In several of our photos we have a cloud in the shape of a heart floating above us. Jason’s mom passed away two months before our wedding and during her last few days, she mentioned that she would be watching on a cloud. We were blown away when we saw it appear and made for some of the best shots. It was truly something we will never forget.

Your first dance song: Future Days by Pearl Jam

The thing that we would have done differently is? Nothing. We really wanted a no worry, stress-free easy wedding and we got exactly what we wanted.

Your advice for other plus size brides: Remember to be true to yourself. It’s so easy to look at all the pinterest ideas and lose sight of what a wedding is really about. Don’t lose yourself in little details. When dress shopping, never judge a dress by the hanger.

Three adjectives that describe the day: Peaceful, romantic, and fun

What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? The contentment aspect. We’d lived together for years before marriage so i was expecting little change from our daily lives. I was surprised at how content we both feel knowing we’ve got each other for the rest of our lives.
