Tell us about your wedding: The inspiration for our wedding was Alice in Wonderland, because it’s always been my favorite story. I pulled things from it such as the tea party and english garden and wanted those elements as part of my wedding. I described it as an english tea party theme. I wanted to incorporate pastels and tea pots, keys and vintage books. Wedding Colors: Lavender, Mint, Pink, Gold How did the two of you meet? Interestingly enough, we met on Instagram, across the world! Through mutual page interests, he started following me and we talked and hit it off. Describe your engagement: “I flew down with my daughter to visit him in Perth, Australia. A few days after getting there and spending time with his parents, we took a road trip down to Margaret River, which is beautiful, wine country. After a day or two there, we went to get some dinner and bring it back to the resort. We went to the balcony, looking at the ocean & I started getting plates and everything ready and he told me he forgot something in the car, so he went back out. We had dressed up since we were supposed to have a nice dinner out, but with a four year old, it’s unpredictable so we had a nice night in. When he came back, he looked really anxious and I asked if he was okay and he said he was, so I started serving our dinner. I went to dig in and he knelt down and I had just put a spoonful of curry in my mouth, which I was kind of like, WHY NOW!
He proposed to me and of course I said yes! It was a beautiful evening and to have my daughter there to share in such a special moment was unforgettable. ” Personal or handmade details: We did a lot of things ourselves. I thrifted for a lot of my decor, such as the tea pots and my wedding shoes & earrings. I spent hours on eBay searching for vintage editions of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and used those in the centerpieces. I really loved that they didn’t match, they had character and I can pass them down to my children. Describe your flowers: My mom & I went to the local farmers market and purchased a bunch of flowers to create our bouquets. I picked flowers within my color palette and bought all of their eucalyptus, because I wanted a lot of greenery. Spent the night before the wedding putting our bouquets together and my aunt made beautiful centerpieces for the tables. Your first dance song: 1000x by Jaryyd James ft. BROODS The thing that we would have done differently is? I would’ve probably worried less. I was so worried about everything being perfect and I feel I could’ve enjoyed myself around my friends and family more if I didn’t. Your advice for other plus size brides: Be your own fairytale. As plus size ladies, a lot of times we’re looked down on to not feel as beautiful and to hell with that. We are beautiful and we can be princesses if we so desire. I never settled on a dress from a store simply because it fit and was decent. You shouldn’t have to either. I ended up with three dresses and I’m not the type to buy three but I picked my first one as a back up in case I didn’t find what I wanted. I then bought my dream dress but it ended up not being able to be altered, so I magically found another that was just as perfect. While I don’t recommend getting multiple dresses, my point is that a lot of times we are given choices that are frumpy or the length is awkward or not cut for our figures and many women settle, because of budget or they give up in thinking they can find their dream dress and we shouldn’t. We should really enjoy the dress finding experience, because it just makes everything come together once you have THE dress. Three adjectives that describe the day: Romantic, Peaceful & Enchanting What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? Learning to live with each other. Since my husband is from Australia and me, the U.S, we never were able to live together before. It’s definitely been interesting figuring out each other’s habits and stealing the sheets from each other, etc. It’s also really comforting to wake up and he’s just there and it feels amazing to have the person you love always there through anything.
