{Real Wedding} DIY Intimate California Beach Wedding | The Nerdy Pony Studio

I can’t say it enough, a wedding is truly made yours when you place your personality stamp on it.  Today’s couple did that so well. They decided to have a small intimate wedding for family and close friends. What really made this wedding so special to me was that both the bride and groom had 2 kids each from previous relationships and they made it a must to include the kids and make the wedding really about all of them.  I love it! Plus the bride completely DIY’ed the whole wedding and came under 5k, a huge feat for such a great celebration. Check our more below!

From the Bride: Chris and I met three years ago on a dating website. I knew early on that he was going to be the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. A year later Chris proposed. I have two children from a previous relationship and Chris has two children from a previous relationship as well. We wanted to focus our wedding on becoming a family of six. Our wedding took place at the historic Hotel Del Coronado located in San Diego, California. A fun fact is the movie 'Some Like it Hot' featuring Marliyn Monroe was filmed at the hotel. Also the Wizard of Oz book was written at the Del by the author Frank Baum. We had a intimate wedding with family and close friends. The ceremony took place on the beach in front of The Hotel Del Coronado. Our reception was located at The Blue Water Boathouse which is the original boathouse for the Del. It mimics the look of the hotel and was built a year prior to building the historic hotel in 1888. It was used as a prototype for the hotel. I was completely a DIY bride! I love being creative and enjoying putting special touches in our wedding. I made everything from the invitations, all the decorations and centerpieces, and even constructed all the flowers with the help of a few friends. I just graduated from dental school and my husband just started nurse practitioner school so we decided to keep to a very tight budget. Our entire wedding, reception, lodging and attire was under $4,000 in total. One of our favorites from the wedding was our wedding cakes. I took a few pictures to my local Albertson's Grocery Store and the bakery made four cakes for under $100. I added my own "bling" by using sparkly buttons and fabric flowers. We also used my parents wedding topper from 35 years ago. The flowers were bought from a local wholesaler and all the flowers (reception, ceremony flowers, and my bridal bouquet) were bought and arranged for under $250.
