{Real Plus Size Wedding} Vintage Alabama Yellow and Gray Wedding | j. woodbery photography

Now, I’m a sucker for amazing weddings and yellow and gray definitely take the cake for me.  There are tons of wedding color combination but it’s just something about yellow and gray that takes me to another place.  It’s a simple and sweet combination but it speaks volumes and to me it’s the epitome of an old world, having tea on a front porch type of feeling when I see it.  And this couple made my heart skip a beat when I saw it for the first time with all their DIY elements and shabby chic style, all caught beautifully by j. woodberry photography.

From the Photographer: If you see a detail here, it was made by a friend or family member. Other than myself for the photos, everything else was made! Family friends provided the flowers, cakes and desserts, decorations, and paperie, and Haley and her sisters crafted the other details. Kathy, the owner of Magnolia Springs Manor, provided the catering and the suits the guys wore were rented from Mens Wearhouse (where Amos’s brother is a manager!). Haley’s dress was even given to her for free as a gift! Kathy at Magnolia Springs has a secret stash that Haley got to choose from. They seriously had the most budget friendly wedding!

From the Bride: “Our wedding day was a collaboration of so many friends and family members that offered their help and services to us. We were so overwhelmed by the outpouring of help and love that we were shown on our special day! I knew when I started planning the wedding that I wanted it to have a DIY, vintage feel to it. We ended up doing a lot of things ourselves, with the help of some awesome friends and family members. The result was better that I ever thought it could be. The venue where our wedding was held was Magnolia Springs Manor in Helena, AL. It is a gorgeous old white house with a tent in the back that housed the reception. It really gave off the southern vintage feel that I was going for. j.woodbery photography captured our day in the most beautiful way possible. I have known for a long time that I wanted to use Jennifer Woodbery as my photographer, but I had no idea how much she would blow me away. The pictures she took are treasures that I love so very much. Our cakes and sweets table were made and decorated by my cousin Olivia Semore, with the help of my aunt, Sandy Sims. The decorations for the wedding were all DIY creations made by myself and others. My sister and Maid of Honor made the flower backdrop that was behind us during the ceremony, as well as the ribbon backdrop that was displayed at the reception. The reception décor was made up of white pumpkins, milk glass vases, and chalkboard frames displaying quotes painted by my mother. The ceremony décor was set up by our wonderful families and friends. Our flowers were arranged by a family friend, Kristin Edwards. The bouquets and flower arrangements were so gorgeous and exactly what I wanted. Our reception food was done by a family friend, Kathleen Phillips, who owns The Occasional Gourmet catering company. The men were dressed in suits from Men’s Wearhouse, provided by Amos’ brother, Brock Boyd. The “I do” stickers on the bottom of my shoes were from my Mother-in-law, Joy Boyd. The sash that went on my dress was sewn by my mother, Lydia Howe, and my makeup was done by my sister and Maid of Honor, Somer Howe.  We were married by Amos’ step-father, Danny Boyd. The ceremony was so personal and heartfelt. It was absolutely perfect. My wedding band was worn by my grandmother before me, and Amos’ wedding band was worn by his grandfather. One of the points mentioned during the ceremony was that the rings together already had 100 years of happy marriage on them. The day was so perfect and more than I ever imagined it would be. It absolutely would not have happened without the help of all of the special people in our lives.”
