Today’s couple is hilarious. I love it when a couple, especially the groom, really get into the wedding and show their personality.  He is hilarious in some of the pictures. It’s great to see a groom having an amazing time and letting his personality show through.

How did the two of you meet?  It was sophomore year in college (2005) He sent me a message in online saying that I looked familiar and ironically my roommate, friends and I were in Baltimore and hanging out in the same area. He lived not too far from my roommate so as corny as his pickup line was it could’ve been true. We just started talking and chatting from there and we just hit it off. He came to a campus party and we started dating. It’s been history ever since!

Describe your engagement:  It was Christmas day 2009. We were at my mother’s house. He gave me this gorgeous necklace and earring set as a Christmas gift. He looked really suspicious and kept having this look on her face. I just knew he something was up. Finally he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. I looked at him with disbelief and probably asked a dozen times if he was serious. I would looked at the ring and then at him…the ring and then at him. Then yes, I asked him was it was real. By then you could tell he was too through with me and just shook his head in disbelief as if to say you have to go to be kidding me. To make a long story short, after all of that, I said yes. So what it took me about an hour for it to register and start crying and respond, I said yes!

The weather on your wedding was:   Beautiful fall weather. About 63-64 degrees…sunny

Describe your wedding flowers:  I had hot pink calla lilies and Jermaine had a hot pink calla lily to match. The bridal party had white calla lilies.

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The décor and attire and how everything for the most part came together.

The most unique element of the day: Everything! One of the most unique things is when I presented my husband’s daughter with a butterfly necklace (everyone knows I love butterflies and what they symbolize- beauty, new beginnings, growth, etc.) during the ceremony and told her that I love her and will always be here for her no matter what and that we are one. It was symbolic of our family as a unit and that she is just much of a daughter to me as she is to her. Not only were those words I do to him but to her as well.

Describe your DIY décor:  Everything was DIY. My planner and I did countless hours making everything ourselves. Jermaine helped out occasionally. I made our broom to jump and menu frames. We designed, printed, cut, and made our save the dates invitations, and programs from scratch. We designed and did the décor for our reception and ceremony. I had a vision and with the help of my planner we made it come to life! It was amazing! Our theme was “Balling on a budget!”

Describe your wedding cake:  Four tier wedding cake with a blinged out P monogram at the top and pink flowers surrounding it. They were suppose to be hot pink flowers but for some reason the cake lady put light pink and by then we couldn’t do anything about it. Nobody knew our bottom layer was fake We wanted a big cake but for less and we also didn’t have a gazillion guests. The cake was delicious. It was vanilla with vanilla frosting.

Your first dance song: A Couple of Forevers by Chrisette Michele

The thing that we would have done differently is?  Everything went by so fast. We went to each table and thanked everyone for coming but we did not do a formal thank you which I regret and think about often. I would’ve like to have given and planned on giving a speech but so much happened and was going on, I kind of wish I would’ve put that in the agenda and embraced every moment. I also wish we would’ve had time to go in and seen the reception area ahead of time. There was a major table area where one of our family tables was all the way in the back and it through all of the tables off and I would’ve have like to catch that long with the light pink flowers at the top of the cake. Another thing is we did not tell the kitchen to save our top layer of our wedding cake. We have some of it but they cut it all into pieces. We also would’ve saved for two limousines instead of sharing one since it caused us to start late and have some time issues.

If we could have spend our wedding dollars differently, we would have:  Spent less on the money so that we could have went on a honeymoon. We hope to be able to go on one in the near future but for now we are saving for our first home.

Your advice for other plus size brides: Don’t give up on finding your special dress. You will know it’s the one as soon as you try it on. Also, things are destined to happen leading up to the day and on the day just breathe and remember your union with the one you love before God, family, and friends is the most important thing. One last thing is redirect everyone to your planner or someone else. For some reason people kept calling/texting my husband and I for directions, telling us they were not coming or whatever and it cause more stress when they could’ve informed our planner or someone else. Don’t pay it any mind. Ignore the calls/messages and keep it moving!

Three adjectives that describe the day:  Beautiful, intimate, fun

What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage?  I never knew we could love each other more than we did before we said I do.
