I love seeing plus size brides that are beyond happy to be getting married and having the attention on them and this bride is so stunning and happy to be marrying her hubby that it shows in every single image that Heather McKay of McKay’s Photography captured. I absolutely love it. And I’m loving the color combination too.
Elizabeth & Anthony
Wedding Date: 4/26/14
Wedding Location: Irondequoit, NY
Number of guests: 70
Wedding Colors: Fuchsia with lime green accents
The weather on your wedding was: cold and gray
Describe your wedding flowers: Lots of pinks with some ivory thrown in: roses, hydrangea, Gerber daisies, stefanotis.
How did the two of you meet? on the Plenty of Fish dating website
Describe your engagement:It was a Monday evening, we were relaxing watching TV and he decided to pop the question!
Your advice for other plus size brides: My advice is to make sure you find a gown which makes you feel like the amazing, beautiful woman you are. I was terrified I wouldn’t be able to find a dress that I loved (and that loved me back), but I sure did and I still love it! Don’t worry about fitting some image of a bride in a magazine (unless it’s PPB!) SMILES!! because brides come in all sizes. Be true to yourself in all of your choices and you will love the wedding you created!
Three adjectives that describe the day: Joyful, emotional, fun!
If we could have spend our wedding dollars differently: I think we would have reserved some of our total budget for our honeymoon…that ended up last on the list!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The ceremony
The most unique element of the day: The ceremony which was created by Tony and I with the Reverend’s help
Describe your DIY décor, if any: Tony and I made the table numbers using $1 frames that he spray painted, scrapbooking paper and painted wooden numbers.
Describe your menu and your favorite part: We love southern BBQ so we had pulled pork, ribs, BBQ chicken, baked beans, corn and cornbread. My favorite part is that all of the guests raved about it!
Your first dance song: “She’s Everything” by Brad Paisley
The thing that we would have done differently is: We would have worried less about whether the guests were having a good time at the reception (I think people expect to entertain themselves) and I would have been more in the moment at the reception. Your wedding day, which you’ve often planned months for, will fly by…enjoy every moment and soak up all of the love and joy that your day is all about!
Describe your wedding cake and any other desserts: We had a small layer cake for cutting, it was an Ultimate white cake; the guests were provided cannoli donuts from Donuts Delite (the grooms favorite).
Describe your DIY décor, if any:
Tony and I made the table numbers using $1 frames that he spray painted, scrapbooking paper and painted wooden numbers.
What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? The sense of family and permanence that marriage brings. There is something different about being married that feels “official” and it’s a great feeling! Also that marriage is not a destination, it’s a journey that begins with your wedding and will continue throughout your life together and that’s a beautiful thing!
