{Proposal} Family Pictures turned Surprise Proposal | Annabelle’s Photography

We have a modern Brady Bunch style surprise proposal on tap for you today, lovely readers! Anna and Tim both have children of their own and it was very important for them that their children be involved in the proposal. Everything went off without a hitch, resulting in gorgeous portraits celebrating the new family. Congratulations!

Anna & Tim

Tell us about your first meeting.. Anna: We met online! After we talked for a few hours, we realized we had some mutual friends. After talking with mutual friends, we were told that we would be perfect for each other and had to meet. Tim: We found each other online and figured out we had mutual friends who highly recommend us to each other. Tell us about your First Date…Anna: We went to a small restaurant in our town. Talked for a little while and then went to an open field and shot guns. Tim: First date we met at a local restaurant, talked and ate cheese curds. We left and went for a drive. Anna had never shot a gun before so I set up some bottles and we shot them. She loved it. She was so beautiful and kind. Just amazing I was in love from the first date. Tell us about your First Kiss…Anna: On our first date. After shooting guns. Open field in the dark with fireflies flying around us.Tim: I don’t kiss and tell. Lol! Tell us about the proposal…Anna: Total surprise during family pictures. 🙂 Tim: I talked to our friend and photographer and worked out a plan to propose during our scheduled family photos. We both have kids (she has two, and I have three) and I wanted them to be involved but knew I couldn’t tell them or they would ruin the surprise. Our plan was to go through the whole photo session as normal and then I would ask in the last shots, but I was too excited and requested to do it at the beginning instead. It worked out great! Our photographer posed us so that Anna was first sitting on my knee, then she asked her to stand up and turn to the side (allowing me time to pull out the ring), when the photographer asked her to turn around we were surrounded by our children and I was on my knee with the ring in hand! She was so surprised!

From the Photographer: I had been working with Tim for several months to try to pull together the best surprise engagement for Anna.  Both Tim and Anna have children of their own and it was very important to him that the kids be involved in the proposal, yet, he didn’t want them to be in on the surprise for fear they may leak the news ahead of time.  We were able to schedule on a beautiful fall day (and then reschedule to another beautiful fall day!) and bring everyone together for their first “blended family portraits.” Anna had mentioned that she wanted to make sure that her fingernails looked nice whenever she got engaged because she had seen gorgeous engagement pictures with not so gorgeous nails and did not want to be that girl.  So for weeks before the session I coaxed Anna to go to the nail salon with me to get my nails done.  I do not wear acrylic nails but convinced her I was in the market for them.  Anna runs a her own business and is very active in her children sports and after school activities. In addition she is an integral member of a nonprofit women’s organization and is a very busy lady.  After several broken appointments due to schedule conflicts, sadly Anna was not able to get her nails done in time for the session. I was, however, able to convince her to pamper herself and get her hair and makeup styled for the family photos by the very talented Lacea Violet Artistry.  I had recently had mine done for our family portraits so it was an easy sell. On the day of the proposal Anna met with Lacea to be styled for the shoot.  Lacea was well aware what was in store for the day and found it amusing that Anna was eyeing all of the gorgeous wedding gowns in her studio (she shares a studio space with Sienna Cole Bridal).  When Lacea asked Anna if she wanted waterproof makeup she declined because there was no reason she would need waterproof makeup.  Lacea, knew better.  The plan for the proposal was to hold the entire session and then towards the end I would pose Tim on one knee, have Anna sit on his knee and then say, “Hmmm, I think we should do it this way” and have Anna stand facing away from him, allowing him time to grab the ring and when I ask her to turn around he is on one knee with the ring. Well as we were starting the session Tim told me he was just too excited to wait until the end.  So we started the session with the proposal.  The posing worked out perfectly, and with many thanks to Lacea Violet Artistry, Anna’s makeup did not run one bit when the tears did in fact come! The kids were excited but told me “they knew it was going to happen anyway.”  They are all very aware of what a wonderful their parents make and were especially happy when they realized they would be “REAL” brothers and sisters now! All in all the proposal went off without a hitch and we got some gorgeous photos of both the  love between Tim and Anna and the excitement of the blending of a new family.
