PLANNING | The Heart Of A Wedding Doesn’t Cost A Thing

The majority of us have been dreaming about our wedding day since we were little. We play brides when we’re young and dress up in white. We know, to some extent, exactly how we want our big day to be. And, when someone proposes, all those dreams come rushing to the fore. Finally, you can have the day you’ve always wanted! Then reality hits. The more research you do, the more you realize how much those plans would cost. Then, those dreams become nightmares as the reality sets in that they may never come true. If you’re struggling with a budget wedding, we’re here to tell you that your day can be as special as your young self imagined. Compromising on cost does not mean compromising on your special day. In fact, a wedding on a budget offers you the chance to do things differently, which has got to be a good thing, right? Here are a few ways to ensure your day still lives up to expectations.

REMEMBER WHAT MATTERS

During wedding planning, it’s easy to lose sight of what matters. Remember that your wedding day doesn’t have to be perfect to mean the world. Frills and thrills aside, the point of marriage is to celebrate the love you share with your special one. That love will not diminish because you’ve spent less on your wedding. In fact, it can become even more pronounced. Instead of distracting guests with grand gestures, your simple ceremony will lay your love bear. One thing that doesn’t cost anything is saying ‘I do,’ and that’s going to happen, no matter how much you spend!

PERSONALITY IS FREE

Adding a personal touch to your wedding won’t cost anything, but it’ll make all the difference. Your personality is what makes your wedding unique, so make sure to use it! If, for example, you’re having a wedding at home, make it special by incorporating a theme. If that’s too far for you, add small touches that only you could do. Are you a crafty person? Why not make your invitations and place cards? You could even work on making your wedding cake. A lot of the costs of a wedding are things you can do yourself, for less than half the price. And, that personal touch will make everything mean that bit more. Spending hundreds on a cake of someone else’s making won’t be half as special as making your own. Okay, it might be a bit rough around the edges. But, that’s all part of the charm!

THERE ARE STILL PLENTY OF OPTIONS

Bear in mind that there are still plenty of options to choose from. These 100+ fantastic frugal wedding ideas you can’t ignore should give you some ideas. The options are still endless. You might just have to think outside the box a little more. And, there’s no reason you can’t still add a few touches of luxury. Shopping around for the best deals may show you that you can afford more than you thought. As with anything, it’s all about the effort you put in. You don’t have much cash to splash, so spend what you do have wisely. Don’t jump into anything without shopping around for alternatives first.

It may also be a case of your research leading you to options you hadn’t considered. It’s important that you keep an open mind. Yes, you may have your sights set on a church wedding, but would a registry office be so bad? Compromise is the name of the game when it comes to saving money. Don’t disregard a venue because it’s not what you had in mind. Go along and see what you think. The same can be said for every aspect of your day. An open mind is the best way forward.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP
And no, we’re not talking financially. If you’re doing a lot of the work yourself, you’ll have a lot on your shoulders. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your nearest and dearest. If you have a creative friend, see if they could help with invitations. If you know someone who’s fantastic at baking, see if they’d be willing to make your cake. Of course, you don’t want to put any financial burden on them. If they agree, make sure you buy everything they need. Asking for help is tough, but it’s well worth doing. You never know, someone may even have a dress you could borrow! Don’t ask, don’t get.
