Motivation Mondays: Popping with Color

I’ve mentioned this before but when I was a kid, I liked wearing clothes that were usually black. I thought that wearing dark clothing made me look thinner and if I looked thinner I looked prettier. As a result, it became my security blanket because I could hide behind them and guard my body like a shield, but I got tired of shielding myself all the time. I wanted to relax and be free and I couldn’t do that just by wearing black clothes. So I tried brighter, more vibrant colors for my attire and felt much more comfortable with what I wore. If you were to take a look in my closet now, you’d see all the colors of the rainbow.

We live in a very colorful world, so what we wear should be just as radiant. I know everybody likes to wear clothes that don’t exactly pop with color (I still put on something black whenever I feel like it), but wearing brighter colors makes you stand out from the crowd. It gives you a chance to show everyone who you are. It allows you to be a care free spirit who’s willing to go the distance. There are no limits and you get to be as comfortable as you want without safe guarding yourself. I’m not saying that dark clothing is bad, but it’s better to have variety in your clothes than to remain in one color for the rest of your life. Don’t hide yourself, express yourself.

Like I always say, a big change takes little steps, so in case you’re not ready to wear bright clothing from here on out, try this little exercise: wear clothes that are the same color as your favorite color and go from there. For example, my favorite color is pink, so I try to buy as much pink as I can so that I can wear it. When you do this for awhile, you become interested in trying new colors and learn which colors look good on you and which ones don’t. For me, I think I look best wearing red, which is why I have a whole drawer full of red shirts! Remember, one step at a time.
