From The Bride: Chris and I met in college and formed a tight connection very quickly. I knew he was the one for me and so when he asked my to marry him in July of 2008, it was a confident “yes”! We were in no real hurry to make it official and wanted to make sure the time was convenient for the bulk of our family and friends. October 2011 ended up being that time and it made for such a beautiful autumn Asheville wedding.

I began planning our hitchin’ about 6 months before the big day and it was a lot of work to throw a party for our 450 invitees – but so much fun! I researched potential wedding sites and then local dressmakers, cake bakers, party suppliers and more. It was very important for us to source as many local folks as possible – we met here and our lives together have flourished in these mountains. We wanted folks to get a little taste of Asheville when they came for the wedding weekend – and they did! We decided upon a weekend-long celebration to take place at the Swannanoa4H Center and we were able to provide rustic lodging for the majority of our out-of-town guests.

Our friends and families put in lots of hard work at the camp and transformed the grounds and buildings into a welcoming, rustic-elegant setting for the ceremony and celebration. We saved money on rentals and linens because tables, chairs and benches came with the rental of the 4H Center and we borrowed tablecloths from my husband’s work. To decorate, we bought buckets of flowers from local farmer’s markets, cut huge bouquets of herbs and sunflowers from friend’s gardens and gathered wild grapevine and bittersweet. A good friend constructed the grapevine arch and made the batik the was behind us at the alter. To make the boutonnieres, I used herbs and flowers from our garden and tail feathers from the roosters we harvested in the spring.

Last year in a star-studded event, Carrie Underwood married her beloved beau, Mike Fisher at the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation resort. Stuart Weitzman was her show of choice for her fabulous event. While many brides select their shoes for comfort, Carrie Underwood chose a nice blend of both style and comfort with the Stuart Weitzman line of shoes. These designer wedding shoes were the perfect complement to her Chantilly lace gown. The sling-back high heels with sparkles were the highlight of the show during the wedding reception.

In 2011, Christina Hendricks was married to actor Geoffrey Arend in October 2011. During her wedding, she wore stunning red wedding flats to complement her strapless bridal gown. The wedding flats were comfortable,functional and stylish. The splash of red color complemented her fiery red hair and fair complexion. Many brides often choose pink wedding shoes to accompany their wedding dress, but she decided a bold color was just the statement for her wedding.

Oh My Honey by Louise O’Mahoney - featured on Rock n Roll Bride, this etsy shop is all about creating 1950s inspired gowns with a flare for colors. Louise takes pride in making beautiful dresses {including plus sizes ~ up to size 20} and great customer care. All dresses are handmade in Brighton by Louise and/or one of my skilled dressmakers.

Union Made Bride –  Since 2000 AlexSandra has been making, restoring, restyling and fitting vintage and contemporary wedding and special occasion dresses for the brides of Portland, Oregon and beyond. She specializes in garments and accessories from 1968 and before with an emphasis on items Union Made in the USA.

Vintage Vortex - This etsy shop offers high end vintage clothing and accessories from the 1940′s through 1960′s. We specialize in 1950′s prom and party dresses. These gowns are made with silk, organza, chiffon, taffeta and tulle!!

But when I see a super cute outdoor shoot it just makes my heart melt.  And that is exactly what happened when I got this shoot from Jess Cumbie Photography.  It is just gorgeous, the Navy couple, Jacey and Zach are in love and it shows.  They are so happy and content just being in each others arms.

Alfred Angelo has really stepped up and made it known that they are offering gorgeous dresses for the full figured bride.  They have shown that they are interested and excited in catering to plus size brides by carrying plus size sample sizes in their salons.

I have experienced this first hand because when I walked into an Alfred Angelo in Richmond,Va and there was a size 20 right on the rake for me I was floored.  And it was one of their latest styles, in season and not outdated.  And honestly there were several larger sizes available too.  So kudos to Alfred Angelo for stepping up to help the Plus Size Brides. Be on  the look out for the Fall 2012 fashions in the fall!

Here’s a little snippet of information from the bride:

We knew that because the property was so beautiful in natural decoration, the few decorations that we were going to do were going to have to be special. Our goal was to have a purpose to all our decor. Both Jason and I hold family very dear and so many of our decorations revolved around the idea of family — introducing our families to each other and highlighting weddings that we had attended as children or heard about growing up. This was the goal of the Hydrangea trees. We went through family photo books, old cedar chests full of pictures and found as many old family wedding photos as we could. The idea was to highlight the love that has run throughout our families’ past. We also wanted to have our guests interact with each other instead of sitting bored and waiting for dinner to start. So we made two of our favorite past times — word searches and crossword puzzles — all about us to help boost the conversation among our guests.

Ashlyn and Trey {from the photographer}

They tied the knot in Phoenix on January 28, 2012. Ashlyn and Trey went to middle school together, went their separate ways, and then spontaneously ran into each other at a bar one night just last year. They said a quick hello, caught up for a few minutes, and within days they were planning to meet up! 

When Trey got down on one knee to ask the love of his life to be his on just Christmas Eve, they had just over one month to plan their wedding! Wow! Let me just say that they did a fantastic job throwing everything together, and that Ashlyn is a FABULOUS DIY bride! Every single aspect of their wedding was DIY! I am a huge fan of the Air Force theme they used in the decor Ashlyn came up with–nothing is over done to the point where it’s tacky, and it really celebrates their love for their country! I can’t even believe how incredible everything looked for her budget wedding! But none the less, the love between these two is so evident in these photos!

I don’t know why but I just love this cute little gift. It’s an eye chart that reads “Thank you for being a Wonderful Mother” with “I love you Mom” on the line under the chart.  It’s just so cute and unique.

This has got to be the cutest gift and as a mother I would love to get something like this.  On this pure silver charm, so it won’t tarnish like sterling silver.  You can put up to two fingerprints and two names.  The shop does say if the child is over 5 years old, a larger pendent may have to be purchased because of fingerprint size.  And birthstones and short phases can be added to the back of the pendent for no charge.
