Wedding Tip Thursday: Choosing Colors

According to Wedding Industry Statistics purple is the fastest growing wedding color. Blue, green and pink are also very popular color choices when you are deciding on your color theme for the big day. The colors you choose for your color theme can help set the tone or introduce your main theme to your guests. As the colors are usually the base for patterns, attire, accessories, invitations and flowers here’s some things to consider.

The Location:  The main location of where you will be doing most of the decorating is key. Consider the colors used in your venue’s decor.  You may want to consider colors that are complementary to the venue to be the most visually pleasing-especially in your pictures. If you do not like the furnishings, you may want to go with a venue that has more of a neutral decor.

Favorite Color?  Your groom is a sports fan and wants the color of his favorite team.  You’ve dreamed of a Tiffany blue wedding since you saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  Go with the colors you love! This is your day, and the things you love should be showcased throughout the wedding.

Season:  What’s your favorite season? The colors and atmosphere of the weather outside, can set the same ambiance for your wedding. Decorating is easier and less expensive when you use seasonal items. You don’t have to choose the soft tones of spring, oranges for fall and poinsettias for winter, but you may want to consider those as the dominant colors and choose accordingly.

Bridesmaids’ Dresses:  If your bridesmaids are all going to be in the same shade, you’ll want to make sure it’s an appealing and flattering shade to wear. If you have your heart set on a color they may not necessarily agree with, consider allowing their dresses to be a neutral color and using flowers and accessories to weave in your favorite colors.

Some color schemes to consider:

Orange and green for the fall. This is a classic but bold pairing that would go well together any time of the year. However, I think the color pairing screams fall!

Red and black for the winter. So many different shades of red can be used to create so many different looks. Try accenting with gold or silver.

Black and white for the summer. This look is beautiful, elegant and classy. However, for the summer other colors can be added for the extra pop of color. Accent with a lime green, baby blue or a light pink.

Green and pink for the spring. These colors are subtle and soft, yet make a bold pairing together. Alternating the colors for your bridesmaid’s dresses or giving them a neutral dress color with green and pink accessories will definitely pop in pictures.

Orange and purple for a tropical destination wedding. These are both very bold colors, so remember not to go overboard, as too much color is not always better. These colors would also go very well with a spring or summer wedding.
